 THE VERDICT:

I picked up a few tools from BYS and they're baby sponges, a blending sponge, and an oval brush, which is pretty popular recently. Here are my thoughts about them.

BYS OVAL FOUNDATION BRUSH AND BLENDING SPONGE IN DETAIL

Oval Foundation Brush is for the application of foundation; BYS has other oval brush products for the eyes, lips, and cheeks and are being sold individually; I've been meaning to try these trendy brushes, but don't want to commit to buying a set so I like that BYS sold theirs individually.

When I decided to unearth my Beauty Blender, I've realized once again why it's become so popular and had a renewed love affair for foundation sponges; could also be that the current foundations that I love using work well with sponge. My Beauty Blender has been around for about two years now and has gotten crumbly and I needed a new replacement. However, the thrifty side of me would still balk at the P950.00 price tag; I discovered that BYS has their version so I thought why not try it to see if it can be a good alternative, plus I also got the baby blending sponges for setting my concealer.

BYS OVAL FOUNDATION BRUSH AND BLENDING SPONGE IN ACTION

The sponges are just like Beauty Blender in shape and color, but BYS' version is just a bit more solid. To be honest, these work just the same as Beauty Blender and they are great alternatives if you won't be nit-picky with the softness and feel. I am also loving the baby sponges; they help set my concealer better!

The sponges don't have any weird rubbery smell and expand when wet with water, just like Beauty Blender. Also, the big sponge bleeds pink in the first wash, just like Beauty Blender. That said, I would advise you to rinse this sponge (or any sponge) prior to usage to remove any type of residue.

Finally, I was able to experience the oval brush. I'm just a having a slightly hard time because I am so used to traditional brushes and I'm trying to adjust my skills to this new brush configuration. What's nice about this brush is it covers a huge area easily in one swipe and it's best used with thick foundation; the thickness of the brush effectively thins out the consistency of full coverage foundation for a less cakey finish.

My faves are the blending sponges! So affordable, but they do the job! Would recommend them to you if you're an everyday foundation wearer like me.

  1. I saw these too on their counter but was a bit hesitant to buy because I still don't know how it performs. But now that you approve of it, I will definitely buy and give some as a gift. A friend of mine gave me a Beauty Blender as a gift before and I always take care of it since I know how expensive it is for a sponge (but it works beautifully anyway). i'm looking for an alternative that I can use everyday so that i do not have to clean my beauty blender too much and this might be a perfect one (I don't like Real techniques... I don't think it works well with BB creams, unfortunately but there are positive reviews to their new ones in diamond shape).

  6. I've been meaning to try beauty blenders since they are very popular, but I can't too high maintenance - like you need to wash them regularly - I know lazy me. But what interest me most are those oval brushes! And I feel like they are so so smooth especially when applying liquid foundation on my face and most importantly I bet it won't bump into the mirror because I need to be super close in front of it because well I am basically blind lol! I want to try them out myself, good thing BYS sells it individually :)

  9. Hurray! I've been looking for a good dupe for Beauty Blender because I don't think I can justify buying such expensive sponges. I hope they're as durable as your Beauty Blenders. Do they expand when wet too? I'll surely be checking these out over the weekend. Thank you for sharing this!

    1. Yes, it expands. :) Feels just a little stiff, but I think it will soften up overtime. :)

  10. OMG for the baby sponges, those two are super duper adorable!!!! I'm eying on the micro beauty blender but since you've first introduced this, I guess this one's a better alternative, mahal kaya ng beauty blender! cuteness overload!

  13. Yay! I've been waiting on your review of the Blending Sponge for ages! I'm so thankful for this review! Now I want to grab my own since I never really mastered applying liquid foundation with my fingers. Sobrang Nightmare. Hahaha.

Etude House sells a similar oval brush pero you can replace the brush head with the sponge head that comes with it. I think you'll like that tool better kasi it felt softer to me.

Thanks Ms. Martha! Great review as always! <3

  16. Didn't know BYS has an oval brush too! Bought mine on an online store which is little cheaper and unbranded, though the performance is okay. Kasooo, nasasayangan ako since set yun. I thought walang individual na nabibili na little bit cheaper since yung nakikita ko lang sa malls and online store is yung branded ones na i wont risk to buy kasi super mahal. Sayang! I want to try their sponge naman since you said na okay naman siya. Plus mas madali (well for me) kapag nililinisan ang sponge kesa sa brush kasi hehe the katamaran in me. Lol.

  17. I'm gonna check out their beauty sponges! I have an oval brush from Suesh and it's been my universal brush for anything I can pick up with it HAHAHAHA! It's great for bases, but I'm not quite convinced about how they would work for lips and eyes :)

  18. The blending sponges look really promising!! I've tried the blending sponge from FS and I found it a bit too solid for my liking. Have you tried the oval brush from etude house? It's a tad bit smaller but it really works for concealing and contouring. It also has an interchangeable brush and sponge head. :)

Perfect timing. I've been looking for cheaper but with quality blending sponge. And the baby sponge is so cuteeeee. And for the oval brush, i really don't know how to use it. 😭😭 i just saw it selling on instagram but yeah i really don't how to properly use it  maybe you could do separate post for that Ms. Martha? Thank you for this update and more power!
