THE VERDICT:

Some translucent powders can feel like a tablespoon of flour on top of your skin plus they feel dry to boot; who likes that, right???

Maybe if angels were wearing translucent powder, it would be something spun out of trails of clouds; fine, airy, and feels invisible on the skin. Maybe it's something like Make Up For Ever Microfinishing HD Loose Powder, the lightest setting powder I've ever tried.

WHAT IS IT?

This translucent powder is part of Make Up For Ever's improved Ultra HD makeup collection; made to meet the standards of 4K technology, this powder claims to provide a smooth, light matte effect on the skin to set foundation and control oil.

I believe this is now the second generation HD translucent powder of Make Up For Ever. The first one, which I owned as well, felt much more coarse and 'thicker' compared to this one; this new version of makeup forever feels like cloud on the skin; it's also almost invisible and I can't almost tell if it's there or not! Why is this so? Because this new version is now made with spherical micro powders, a finer form of Silica.

I just didn't get to take a photo of it, but it's worth mentioning that the packaging has a really nice feature: the cap comes with a cork- shaped stopper that seals the sifter that dispenses the powder so it won't spill all over inside the jar. How thoughtful, Make Up For Ever!

HOW IS IT? WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

Foundation set with MUFE Microfinishing HD Loose Powder

I love how the powder immediately sets foundation effectively and even with just a tiny amount. Even if it's dry to touch, the powder doesn't feel drying at all on the skin. I have also observed that it can keep oil at bay for up to 5 hours plus I can't get enough of how silky, soft, and smooth it feels on the skin!

There has been an issue with HD powders and it's this: crazy patches of powder that are invisible to the naked eye, but get exposed by flash photography. It's a makeup nightmare, I know.

But is this the case with the new HD powder of Makeup For Ever? I tested it and here's a photo below taken with flash:

None! Whew! Glad to report that with MUFE's new HD powder formula, you won't have to worry about those crazy powder patches.

The thing is, yes, Silica in general can produce such horrible makeup patches, but only if you use too much of it and don't buff it properly. More about my technique in using HD powder on a separate blog post or video.

Btw, I'm using a foundation that's lighter than my skin tone in this photo, hence the white cast.

Overall, I like this new formula of MUFE HD powder: it's economical, performs well, and oh so light on the skin!

  1. The white patches is really a nightmare. No one would want to look like that. It's like flour. Hahaha. But this one has a really good finish but it's quite expensive though.

  2. I know that MUFE brand is expensive and well loved by makeup artist/enthusiast. But I'm really happy that I get to have this MUFE Loose Powder. Even if its just in a tiny trial size along with some other MUFE items (travel kit?) wherein I won it in a giveaway. I haven't used it and I'm saving it to use on a special occasion (yeah..thats me!). Now, I more excited about it how good it is.

  4. Boy oh boy, your face looks flawless! I got the previous version of the loose powder. Haven't tried it yet though since it just arrived yesterday as padala from my tita. This one looks better. I just hope there's not much difference with what I have. White cast really is a scary thing for pictures and it can happen to anyone. Yikes!
