#RANawaywithMartha Wedding Blog 5: 5 Quirky Elements in our Wedding + My DIY Bohemian-Rustic Wedding Bands Box

Just sharing with you some quirky elements in my wedding; my husband and I wanted an unconventional wedding for it to be super fun and most importantly, it is aligned with our personalities and beliefs.

1. I HAD A GAY OF HONOR

- Instead of Maid of Honor, I changed it to Gay of Honor because my best friend is gay; I didn't want to get Maid of Honor just because of tradition and besides, this wedding representative of yours should be really special to you, right?

2. WE HAD COCKTAIL HOUR GAMES

- This is a concept that is not that common in Filipino weddings (at least the ones I've been to); this is actually my husband's brilliant idea; he was worried that the guests would be bored with 1 hour of waiting during the cocktails portion so he decided to install games in the cocktail tables; we had Jenga, Crocodile Dentist, Snakes and Ladders, Rubix Cube, and playing cards. It was a really good idea because it kept the guests well entertained and has set the tone for the rest of the celebration.

3. WE MARCHED TO AN UNCONVENTIONAL WEDDING MARCH SONG

- Canon in D is the standard wedding march song for a lot of couples, but for us, we played Chapel of Love by the Dixie Cups; the song's message was perfect for our wedding because we wanted anything and everything that heavily stresses on the concept of LOVE.

For the bridal march, I played Marry Me by Train; it's such a romantic song!

4. I HAD A SUPER FUN ENTOURAGE WALK

- During the reception, instead of just doing a regular entourage walk, for the bridesmaids and groomsmen, we made them do a surprise showdown and the best performing duo won prizes from us. The crowd was bursting with laughter and it amped up the happy feel of the celebration.

5. I EMBRACED THE NON-MATCHING BRIDESMAIDS DRESS

- We didn't have extra budget to shoulder the attire of our beloved bridesmaids and groomsmen so we asked them to just buy their own; I am also a huge fan of practicality and I wanted them to spend on a dress that they can use even after the wedding so I just asked my bridesmaids to buy pastel- colored dresses. I was aware that the dresses wouldn't match because they had to buy on their own, but to give some sense of uniformity, I told them to get pastel shades in the colors of blue, pink, and lilac, and style should be a maxi dress.

And that's all for the quirky elements in my wedding. For the last part, let me share my DIY wedding bands box; I didn't like the box that came with our wedding ring so we had to come up with something that would match our Bohemian-Rustic wedding theme:

 What you will need:

Ruler
Jewelry box (we got ours from H & M home)
Dried flowers
Scissors
Ribbon
Felt paper

STEP 1: Cut out a portion of the felt paper and line the bottom of the jewelry box for a cleaner look.

STEP 2: Get your dried flowers and partly fill up the box.

STEP 3: Tie the wedding bands neatly with a ribbon so you can easily locate both in the box and in case they fall to the ground.

STEP 4: Tie up the box with a satin ribbon. This will ensure that the bands/rings won't be lost, especially if entrusted to young ring bearers.

And that's all for this post. For the next post, I'll share with you my chosen wedding photographer, videographer, SDE, and wedding photos!

  2. Thank you for sharing your whole wedding journey with us, Ms. Martha. I truly feel blessed to have been able to read all parts of this wonderful journey of yours. Makes me want to just fall in love and organize. :) I've learned so many things from you. You have no idea. I love the whole concept! The gay of honor is such a wonderful element. Love truly wins. I wouldn't have had it any other way if I were you. <3 Non traditional twists are also such a thrilling factor especially the cocktail of hour games, the fun entourage surprise showdown, the songs you played which I love (Chapel of Love and Marry Me)! Classics, indeed. The non matching bridesmaids dress is a good accent. It brings a new form of uniqueness to the wedding. The wedding bands box is so cute! It's modern but very intricate, the gold metals along with the glass and the fillers are perfect for the theme! Looking forward to more of your posts! Thanks for sharing this!

  6. Can't help but comment! Ang smart lang nung idea to have Jenga, cards, etc. on the table to have guests occupied! I have been to a few weddings before pero ngayon ko lang narinig itong idea. As a guest, ang time between the church wedding and the meal is usually spent sa mga picture-taking lang eh tapos may instances talaga na bored na so kuha muna ng phone tsaka browse lang. It really shows na you also care for your guests. I want to do this for my own wedding in the future. Thanks for these tips!
