The first time I wrote a lengthy post about introducing
tampons (you can read about it HERE. It has everything you need to know), I got
a lot of questions and at the same time, were thrown various “facts” that are
myths, actually.
Not to shame anyone, but tampon usage is uncommon in the
Philippines that’s why a lot of people are still on the fence with it. I’d like
to share the five common myths about tampons and why you should stop believing
in them.
1.
TAMPONS
WILL DE- VIRGINIZE YOU
I think this is one of the main
reasons why a lot of Filipinas still have reservations on tampon usage. Hey, we
are a religious country and virginity is deemed precious by our society. Technically,
the act of losing virginity is related to sexual intercourse, not when
something is inserted inside you regardless if it’s hygiene or medical-
related. Tampon usage is related to hygiene and no, you will not lose your
virginity when you use a tampon. Case closed!
2.
YOU
WILL FEEL TAMPONS WHEN WEARING THEM
Only if you are wearing it the
wrong way! The right way to wear a tampon and to not feel it is to push it
inside the genitalia and leave half of the removal string outside; this is how
I gauge proper usage. If a tampon is worn properly, you won’t feel a single
thing.
3.
TAMPONS
WILL CAUSE TOXIC SHOCK SYNDROME
And so do sanitary pads. Women
who wear any menstruation aid, whether it’s tampon or sanitary pad, are prone
to TSS, but you have to know that the risk of TSS is present when you have bad
hygiene. So change your tampon at least once or twice a day and wash your hands
before anything else and after everything else, and make sure to change tampons at least twice a day.
4.
TAMPONS
ARE EXPENSIVE
They can be, but there are
affordable ones out there like Ladouce Tampons. Ladouce Tampons come in Mini,
Normal, and Super to cater to any degree of monthly flow. A box of 32 minis
only retails at P374, normal at P395, and super at P419 whereas most tampons
are at P500 per box of 16. You can also use my discount code; check out the
Ladouce photo on the right column: Click the photo, use my promo code MARTHA10,
and get 10% off on Ladouce tampons for every P500 minimum order.
5.
TAMPONS
WILL SWIM UP YOUR UTERUS
Tampons are too big to pass the
cervix into the uterus. This thing can only happen in your wildest dreams.
So these are the top five tampon
myths that you should stop believing now. Do you know of any other tampon
myths? Let’s discuss and clarify them below!

ReplyDelete40 na ko pero wala akong macontribute about tampons. Hindi pa ko nakagamit nito. Naalala ko tuloy nung first time kong magkaron. Pinagamit pa ko ni mama ko ng pasador. Thanks for this post Ms M
ReplyDeleteI actually use menstrual cup. It's much better than a pad or tampon. Ever since starting using a menstrual cup, I've never looked back.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this detailed post Ms Martha. It's about time to debunk those misconceptions. I prefer tampons over pads, though the pads serve as a guard in case the tampon becomes saturated.
