THE VERDICT:
There are regular makeup brushes and there are luxury makeup brushes; a lot of makeup brushes have passed my hands in my entire beauty blogging career and I could say that luxury brushes indeed are something else; luxury brushes are almost always handcrafted and have exceptional craftsmanship that warrant the hefty price tag. Some of the luxury brushes I own are from Koyudo, Make Up For Ever, Bobbi Brown, MAC, and Guerlain to name a few; as great as they are, I can't deny that they can put a pretty dent on the wallet.
A couple of years back, SOFFIA, a sub-brand of local brush brand Charm brushes was introduced; it's luxury brushes at a much affordable price point and it has changed the game for most of us who want to experience a new level of makeup application without the serious cash out!
L-R Opulence All Over Face Brush, Soft Focus Brush, Opulence Powder Cheek Brush, and Opulence Perfect Skin Angled Foundation Brush
Just how cool are these Soffia luxury brushes? For one, the bristles are soft...like out of this world soft; it's so soft that I even think that if you have reactive skin, you won't experience irritation with these. The brushes are made with Lush Opulence bristles made from very high quality synthetic bristles that mimic the softness of the premium Japanese squirrel hair; that said, it's great that Soffia has made it possible to mimic the precision and quality of natural hair while staying cruelty- free.
Soffia said that the brushes are made with Japanese technique and standards; ICYDK, the Japanese way of crafting brushes is tantamount to an art form that dates back to thousands of years; their way is pretty much a standard and this very well explains why Japanese brushes are one of the most expensive (if not the most) makeup tools in the world; do me a favor will 'ya, research on Koyudo, Hakuhodo, and Suqqu while you're reading this. :D
Let me muse about the Soffia favorites that I have:
Opulence All Over Face Brush- a soft, dense brush with a slim shape that lets you apply powder seamlessly. Use the flat side for full coverage and the edge for sheer coverage.
Soft Focus Brush- for soft focus powder application; you can use this for natural bronzing too
Opulence Powder Cheek Brush- a slim, more compact brush for applying blush on the apples or powder on the tight corners of the face
Opulence Perfect Skin Angled Foundation Brush- a good dupe for Shiseido's Perfect Foundation Brush, but with a much bigger diameter only. The short, dense bristles help buff liquid and foundation flawlessly onto the skin, preventing streaky application.
I have a thing for evenness on my brushes because I believe that this results to better makeup application and this is what I love with Soffia; the brush cuts and trimmings are clean and even; definitely makes you feel that you own a very expensive brush!
Soffia's brushes come with a box for extra savviness; makes it great for gift giving too! Regarding the price, it's in the 0000 range; not necessarily affordable, but if compared with luxury brands, it's already affordable. Take for example the Soft Focus Brush: Soffia's is P2,850 whereas with luxury brands, the same type of brush would probably be in the P4k-P5k price range.
If you have reactive skin, I would advise you to go for luxury brushes with soft bristles; no need to worry about spending a fortune because there's Soffia!
Or if you just have a taste for the finer things in beauty, but don't necessarily want to pay a lot (LOL), there's always an affordable luxury brand like Soffia!
