THE VERDICT:
Mark by Avon is Avon's bold, trendy brand that is geared towards young, savvy, go- getter women; "make your mark" is what the brand wants women to explore with their range of makeup products. One thing that's been making its mark is the much- awaited arrival of Liquid Lip Lacquer and Shine lipsticks. I've tested and swatched 21 shades for all of you, plus I'll let you know my favorites and whether I'm Team Matte or Team Shine!
Mark by Avon Liquid Lip Lacquer Matte and Shine are the newest products under the brand; high pigment, rich, moisturizing lipsticks in matte and gloss finishes that features Magnet Lock Technology, a built- in primer for color that won't flake nor feather. 12 shades for matte, 12 shades for shine.
The product comes in a half- sized lipstick tube, which I find cute, space- saving, and practical, to be honest, given the pigmentation of the product (which you will all see in a bit). There are a ton of shades in the line so the half size tube gives consumers a chance to cycle through at least a majority of the shades before they move on to a new release. Packaging looks chic, btw.
Product comes with a fairly large doe foot applicator in a semi- spade shape. I found it a bit huge at first, but after using it, I realized, it does the product justice. I also found that pressing it down on the lips and sliding it sideways for a couple of times spreads out the product properly and gives lips a more volumized look.
Liquid Lip Lacquer Matte
Consistency is a rich, mousse- like cream; it feels nice and soft on the lips, and doesn't feel heavy. It has a sweet floral fragrance. All the 12 shades are available locally.
Liquid Lip Lacquer Shine
Consistency is a rich, slightly sticky cream, which gives it longer staying power than most lip gloss products. For a lip gloss, pigmentation is intense! It's almost like OCC Lip Tar already. It has the same sweet floral fragrance as its matte counterpart. 9 shades out of 12 are available locally.
Let's swatch everything!
LIQUID LIP LACQUER MATTE
1. PINKING ABOUT YOU
- Pastel baby pink. Errr, not my shade, but I can see myself wearing this to a costume party. Reminds me of one of MAC Viva Glam Lady Gaga lipstick.
2. DARE TO BE BARE
- Midtone nude. Hey, this is a pretty daily nude lippie!
3. ROSY FLUSH
- More like Barbie pink. Reminds me a bit of MAC Chatterbox! This shade will fare better on fair skin tones.
4. NUDE VIBES
- Soft peach. A nude peach that will suit fairer skin tones.
5. NAKED CRUSH
- A warmer version of Nude Vibes: Soft, warm peach that will look good on medium skin tones.
6. IRRESISTIBLE
- Red velvet. It's a girl next door kind of red.
7. TKO
- Hot pink with purple undertone. This shade takes me back to 2012 when hot pink was all the rage!
8. HEADTURNER
- Bright red with a hint of orange. A perfect red for summer!
9. FLUSHED
- Magenta with a hint of berry. This is a classic variation of pink and I love how it looks good on my skin tone! Totally flattering!
10. ORANGE YOU HAPPY
- Hot Orange. A good dupe for Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Anna Nicole.
11. MANEATER
- Purple wine. Pretty shade, I must say; I look forward to using this in one of my night outs.
12. PASSION-IT
- Dark red with a hint of brown. A vampy hue that's timeless!
My lips are choosy when it comes to matte lipsticks, but I'm pleased to report that my lips are okay with this product's formula: it's smooth, soft, doesn't exacerbate dryness, doesn't cause my lips to flake 97% of the time (unless my lips are not in a really good state to begin with), and doesn't develop a feathery texture during wear. Also, most colors apply well and without patchiness; oh, did I mention that it gives lips a volumized look???
LIQUID LIP LACQUER SHINE
1. SKYLINE NUDE
- Pale pink-peach. Pretty shade and will work well on fairer skin tones.
2. CHIC FEELINGS
- Pastel pink. This is almost the gloss version of Pinking About You.
3. VINTAGE SMOKE
- Pale rose with a hint of lavender. I can see myself pairing this with a smoky gray eye makeup look!
4. NUDIETUDE
- Warm nude peach. My favorite shade in the range because it's so laid-back, pretty, and encapsulates a sunny vibe.
5. POUTY
- Dirty purple/rose. A fairly unique shade; great for daily wear and office wear.
6. LOVE BITE
- Hot Pink. 'Nuff said!
7. IT GIRL
- Electric pink. It's close to MAC's Girl About Town. What a funky shade!
8. WORK IT
- A classic red. Perfect as a topper for most red lipstick shades, if you want that gloss boost.
9. DARK AND STORMY
- Deep btown wth purple undertone. An edgy yet classy shade; it's a shade that's versatile enough that you can bring it to a dinner date up to a concert later on in the evening.
I find this product much more pigmented than the matte counterpart, thus I advise you to apply it sparingly. It feels a bit tacky in the beginning and I find that its consistency is an acquired taste due to its viscosity, but once it settles, it's like it thins itself out and eventually feels like regular lip gloss with less weight, stickiness, and worry. Surprisingly, this lip gloss lasts for a fair amount of time!
Both products have pretty good staying power, thanks to the built- in primer.
You know what? I like these lipsticks and I'm Team Shine because I am impressed at the staying power of the lip gloss; you don't see a lot of that nowadays! Mark by Avon did a pretty good job on this one and I'm looking forward to more! For my recommendations, I suggest Dare To Bare, Orange You Happy, and Flushed from the matte range, and Nudietude, Pouty, and Vintage Smoke for the shine range.
