THE VERDICT:

I know that Vice Cosmetics' new lipstick was their last hurrah for 2018 and should have swatched this sooner, but as they always say, better late than never!

Vice moves from matte to velvet with their new, highly anticipated Phenomenal Velvet Liquid Lipsticks. I heard that the lip liner has vastly improved!

Ingredients

Vice Cosmetics Phenomenal Velvet Liquid Lipstick is a lipstick and lip liner set; it's pretty much similar to Phenomenal Liquid Lipstick, except that the liquid lipstick bottle has a frosted finish and the lip liner had a significant revamp. Oh, the box design has changed too.

If you recall, the first generation lip liner had a major issue: it was too delicate that the tip would always end up breaking to a point of being unusable. The new lip liner comes in an automatic pencil format and it's sturdier now! It did not break when I swatched one on my hand! Good job to the team behind the brand for addressing this!

Here's the applicator; it's a medium- sized doe foot applicator, similar to the first liquid lipsticks.

The lipstick has a smooth, creamy consistency and whipped texture. Finish is velvet matte, which is a soft kind of matte. The lip liner has a pigmented, slightly creamy texture and it applies easily. Both products are unscented.

There's also an issue with this new lip liner and that is some found it lighter than the liquid lipstick; I had the observation too, but I realized, the shade difference is very minimal and it's not recognizable once it's on the lips even if there's a gap between the two products; for the OC ones, this can be remedied by completely covering the lip liner with the liquid lipstick as your final step in the application process

Here are the swatches!

1. ZELAVU

- Dirty Rose with a berry undertone.

2. KUMELAVU

- Midtone rose with a warm pink undertone.

3. IZKERAVU

- Nude peach.

4. ITEKLAVU

- Powdery pink.

5. VULEVU

- Soft coral with a hint of peach.

6. GIVLAVU

- Warm salmon coral.

7. TARAVU

- Red velvet with a light orange tone.

8. GETLAVU

- Bright red.

The lipsticks are very smooth and easy to apply, no doubt, thanks to its velvet consistency. Pigmentation is medium to heavy. Since the formula is velvet, it takes a wee bit of time to dry so apply gradually and allow each layer to dry properly before putting on a new one. It transfers quite a bit too on straws, cups, and utensils, basically when you eat because velvet formulas do not cling on the lips as much as the traditional liquid formulas; if it's just on though, it stays put. It does dry my lips for a little bit so I apply lip balm underneath.

I love using this as a cheek tint because the velvet consistency makes it easy to spread and manage; it also stays long if you put it on top of powder then set it with powder.

Velvet lipsticks are great for those who want added volume to the lips and hate the clinging feeling of traditional liquid lipsticks. Vice Cosmetics Phenomenal Velvet Liquid Lipstick is probably the most affordable velvet lipstick I've encountered and I recommend it if you love this finish!
