THE VERDICT:
When Filipina makeup lovers pick up something online that's supposedly great for oily skin, the demand tips on the wild side of the scale and another opportunity arises for online stores; such is the case of Pond's BB Cream that went pretty viral online around late last year when makeup lovers started getting hooked on Thai beauty products; this particular Pond's product, I believe had its origins in Thailand; I got mine from Sasa Hong Kong though.
I've had this with me for quite a while now so I thought it's high time to give my verdict!
Ingredients |
Pond's BB Powder is a tinted pressed powder that promises to control oil and provide light coverage.
Packaging is like talcum/baby powder; it's basically your grown up Johnson's baby powder that Filipinos love sprinkling on their faces for a tone up (brightening effect) and to get rid of oil. I even believe that this product format was inspired by this classic Filipino beauty regimen haha!

I'm no stranger to Pond's tinted loose powders; in fact, we had this locally before and they were called Pond's Magic Powder; you know, that commercial that launched Karylle Marquez's career on television; but we didn't have the BB version; instead, we had blue, pink, and peach. Ah, the Pond's Magic Powders were my earliest encounter with skin tone correcting powders.
Back to BB. Pond's BB Powder has a light beige hue with a yellow undertone. It has Pond's signature lotus floral- like fragrance. It is very light for my skin tone though. It has coverage, but not something that can cover up or minimize the appearance of discolorations, at least.
But if I apply it sparingly and blend properly, it becomes tolerable; it somewhat disappears on my skin and leaves teeny hint of white cast.

Foundation set with Pond's BB Powder |
The powder has a talcum- powder like texture; it's best applied with a fluffy brush to soften coverage; great for baking makeup too.
The powder has very light smoothing benefits, but not really the one to impress; it's like it has smoothing benefits just because it has talcum texture, which is a smooth powder type to begin with.
The moment of truth: Is it really good for oily skin?
The answer is no; I have combination skin; not the very oily one and my T-Zone would begin to oil up after just 2 hours of wear. By midday, my face has gotten significantly greasy that I end up retouching with my trusted pressed powder either from Make Up For Ever or Charlotte Tilbury. I guess this is for those days when you just have to quickly drop by a store to pick up something or you want to freshen up at home and get rid of oil without necessarily putting on makeup.
Pond's BB Powder is good for normal to dry skin types. If you have combination or oily skin, have discolorations, and planning to use it as a setting powder, make sure that your foundation and primer are great to support the powder.

ReplyDeleteI love this product and it works for my face. If you have oily skin, then use talcum powder. Take note, this is just a BB powder, so don't expect much.
