CALENDULA- one of the most prized skin care ingredients, a respite from extra strength skin care, and a known skin calmer since the ancient times; this peace- loving ingredient is one of Kiehl's signature ingredient since the launch of the namesake skin care line in the 1960's.
But what makes Calendula so good?
Calendula is an extract from Marigold flowers, yellow orange flowers that are reminiscent of Autumn. Oil preparations are popular byproducts of this flower, but the blossoms are also soaked in skin care products to boost benefits and for aesthetic purposes as well.
Calendula has the following skin benefits:
- anti- inflammatory
- antiseptic
- antifungal
- reduces inflammation and sensitivity
- helps skin regenerate faster
- helps prevent premature aging and thinning of the skin
- great for dry skin as well as acne- prone skin
Which skin conditions will benefit from Calendula's healing and peace- loving properties?
- Contact dermatitis
- rough, scaly, extra dry skin
- sunburns
- rashes
- insect bites
- acne
- eczema
- mild surface wounds
- minor rashes and skin irritations
However, if one is pregnant or lactating, it is advised to seek clearance from a physician before usage or avoid Calendula altogether. Those who have allergies to flowers and Marigold are not advised to use Calendula as well.
Kiehl's Calendula line is a crowd favorite because its gentle, hydrating, soothing, non- sting formula makes it ideal for those who are suffering from acne and prefer a treatment that will counteract the strong effects of anti- acne topical products such as salicylic acid, BHA, AHA, or Benzoyl Peroxide and help calm fresh zits; this is why it's a hit for those with oily skin, acne- prone skin, and dry, acne- prone skin. I've been using the toner for the longest time now and I love using it on a daily basis and when I'm breaking out because it's gentle yet tough on acne- causing bacteria.
Just this month, Kiehl's launches a new addition to the best- selling range: CALENDULA SERUM- INFUSED WATER CREAM. This fresh hydrating water-cream is a multi- tasker because aside from being a good ol' moisturizer, it has serum properties as well; it is charged with hundreds of micronized Calendula petals, making it the Kiehl's product with the highest concentration of Calendula.
The cream promises to visibly improve skin radiance in just one week, reduce redness in just two weeks, improve dull skin and uneven texture, and provide 24- hour hydration.
Since my acne has significantly subsided already, I'll be switching to Kiehl's Calendula to deal with small zits here and there; I can't wait to put this new cream to the test!
Kiehl's Calendula Serum- Infused Water Cream is now available in Kiehl's counters and boutiques in the Philippines. Visit KIEHL'S PHILIPPINES on Facebook for more information.
