THE VERDICT:
One of the makeup products that I can't go without are mascara and eyeliner. Mascara is one of my makeup staples because I dreamed of having lush, thick lashes and naturally, I have none and mascara materialized that dream for me everyday while eyeliner helps my small, almond eyes look naturally bigger; so when Pat McGrath's Perma Precision eyeliner and new Fetisheyes Mascara came my way, I was pretty excited!
So how do these products fare? Are they worth it? Let's find out.
Pat McGrath Perma Precision Eyeliner is a liquid liner that promises intense coverage and long- lasting finish; Fetisheyes Mascara, the newest addition to Pat McGrath Labs, is a volumizing mascara with a long- lasting effect; both products come in the shade Black only.
First, off, I LOVE the packaging! It's like opening a goodie bag and the metallic cosmic blue pouch is so pretty that I'm keeping the one that came with the mascara because IT'S.SO.PRETTY. 10 stars for the cool packaging.
Fetisheyes Mascara Ingredients |
Here's the tube; it's basic and simple. There's a pamphlet inside that tells you about the product.
Here's the wand: it's a medium- sized brush with dense bristles; one look and I immediately knew that this wand is for volumizing; the tightness of the bristles ensure that every lash is coated.
The mascara has a semi- creamy consistency; the formula has some slip in it that it will take you a while to build intensity and it's better to let one layer dry up completely before adding another one for better volumizing effect; this type of formula is ideal for those with thick lashes to begin with. At least the formula sets fairly quickly anyway. The formula yielded no fumes and din't sting my eyes.
Here's Pat McGrath Labs' Perma Precision Liquid Eyeliner, which comes in the same blue pouch, albeit much smaller.
I don't know if it's just me, but I find it a wee bit longer than most eyeliners; at least it's ideal for ladies with big hands; the length also allows me to adjust the distance of my hold for a more customized control.
Here's the applicator: It's a very flexible felt tip applicator; again, a bit longer than traditional felt applicators on most eyeliners; the tip is fine, which allows me to create fine lines, but I must admit, there's a learning curve with this product because the length and flexibility of the applicator makes it a bit hard to control; I had to use it for a couple of times to get the hang of it; all it takes is just a very light touch and stroke.
Here's a swatch; it is indeed very pigmented and the liquid flows smoothly through the applicator, and delivers opaque, consistent color coverage. Just like the mascara, it didn't irritate my eyes and has no fumes.
Let's now test the products:
Freshly- applied eyeliner |
After 8 hours of wear |
The intensity diminished by around 15%, but overall, the look is still intact and it didn't smudge on me! I wore this a lot during summer and I'm happy to report that it never smudged on me, not even once; I have oily lids and I even wore right on top of cream eyeshadow and it never ran off; long- lasting indeed! I still don't understand why this product comes off easily on a lot of people, but I guess it's all a matter of skin chemistry.
Let's now check out the mascara:
Bare lashes |
First coat |
Second coat |
Third Coat |
Pigmentation is good, as far as my standards for good pigmentation go, and while it did noticeably volumize my lashes, it came out a bit clumpy and since the formula is 'thin', it didn't fill in the gaps between my lashes and gather the strands nicely.
I used a spoolie to separate my lashes before the mascara dried up completely; it looked more decent and also, don't let people view your lashes from the underside LOL.
On the bright side, the mascara doesn't smudge and flake, responds well to eyelash curlers, gives a lengthening effect, and can hold a curl for a good amount of time, like 15 minutes. This mascara reminds me of Lancome's mascara, one of the best luxury mascara brands for me; a Lancome mascara is about P1,800+ now and since Lancome is no longer available in the Philippines, this is a good alternative.
Between the two products, I like the eyeliner more because the fine tip gives me sharp, precise lines and it lasts the whole day; it's one of the pricey eyeliners that I'll most likely repurchase; I just wish that the applicator were a lot less wobbly and a bit shorter. The mascara, not so much (and I had high hopes for it as I've been following PMG on Instagram and she was hyping it before the release; I do like the wand of the mascara though because it's very good for volumizing, but a good formula is just as important too; maybe if the mascara were a lot less creamy and more whipped and matte, the result would be fantastic and prolly otherworldly.
Pat McGrath has amazing products, but as much as I love her and her brand, I will recommend that you save your money for something else, like her Mattetrance lippies, Mothership palettes, and highlighters. One trait that I think would sell these products is the fact that they don't sting the eyes so if you are sensitive to this, then you might be interested in these products (but take note that the brand did not claim that they're okay for sensitive skin though!).
