THE VERDICT:

Finally, I now own the highly raved lipsticks of Pat McGrath! I can say that Mattetrance is one of the products that have put the brand on the map because I have rarely read a bad review plus almost everyone I've talked with and have tried this product would say they love it, from beauty gurus to blog readers. I thought that boy, this product must be truly amazing and I've got six of them (mostly are best- sellers) to review and swatch today.

What makes Pat McGrath Mattetrance lipstick a stuff of legends? Let's find out.

Pat McGrath Mattetrance is a 30- strong range of bold, revolutionary, pigment- rich modern matte lipstick with a creamy, sensual formula. The color range is divided into three categories: Skin Show (Nudes), Colour Blitz (Brights), and Vicious Venoms (Darks).

The packaging is a gift to behold; Pat McGrath Labs' omnipresent signature artworks adorn the lipstick boxes that untie to reveal the famed bullet nestled within.

Ingredients

Each box contains a small pamphlet that tells you the anatomy of the lipstick, although I think it's something that can be printed on the boxes. Let's all try to reduce waste and use of resource, mama Pat.

Here are the iconic bullets; the pouty, shiny gold lip carved on a polished, black metal tube makes it unmistakably Pat McGrath. A friend had compared the packaging of Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipstick and this, and she made an interesting point when she said that CT's lipstick feel more luxurious than PMGL; the Mattetrance bullets feel quite luxurious-unless you are buying the minis-with its moderate and well- polished material; it's classy yet edgy at the same time.

If you will look closely at the lipstick, when it's new, it has this suede- like texture; that gets removed though once you use the product; such an interesting take on this simple detail.

Formula is creamy at first and eventually sets into a soft matte finish with no hint of sheen; it's one (if not the only) of those modern mattes that actually end up looking matte; it is exceptionally smooth and glides on like a dream and oh so easily! I didn't even have to press it down to get it going; just a very light touch and one swipe, and I get a full dose of color; it's very opaque and rich that it may overwhelm some so the Mother herself suggested the finger technique when applying Mattetrance: apply a light layer and spread out using a finger to either soften the color or create an ombre effect. You just have to give the lipstick a couple of minutes to set into a matte finish and to reveal its beauty; when the lipstick has finally set, it's a beautiful, soft matte lipstick with a skin- like look and feel.

The thing with Mattetrance, it has a quite a unique formula than most high- end matte lipsticks; it is neither powdery nor flat matte; it's more of a suede matte that feels more pigment- dense than waxy, which gives me the notion that indeed, it is a pigment- packed lipstick.

Take a look at the swatches:

ELSON

Classic red. This is a beautiful red! It complements my skin tone very well. It's PMGL's answer to MAC's cult classic Russian Red; Elson is warmer and the color beautifully tones the skin.

FLESH 3

Deep burgundy brown. Flesh 3 is the darkest shade of the Flesh shade family; this is geared towards dark skin, but I love the moody brown color; so mod!

1995

A pale vintage pink shade; a nude lipstick that doesn't wash out any skin tone because of the pinkish undertone.

OBSESSED

A bright red orange shade. In daylight, this looks more orange; a fiery, 50's kind of orange that I really love!

OMI

One of the most popular Mattetrance lipstick shades and I can see why; Omi is a warm rose with just the right amount of nude in it; a perfect MLBB shade.

FULL PANIC

Classic hot pink. This hot pink will suit Filipina skin tone because of its warm, blue- based undertone. Since hot pink is making a comeback these days, I'd love to wear this more often because it livens up the skin, plus it's a really pretty hot pink!

Is it drying? My lips can be notoriously hostile to a lot of matte lipstick formulas, but Mattetrance is one of the rare lipstick formulas that it is friends with; my lips don't get dry when I have it on; in fact, my lips feel moisturized with it, although it may highlight certain dry areas because after all, it's still matte lipstick. I also like that the coverage gives lips a more voluminous look and effectively fills in fine lines for a fuller lip.

Is it long- lasting. Surprisingly, it is despite the creamy formula; you just have to allow it to set properly to get its full effect, including the lasting power.

I now get why this product is highly- raved by a lot of people: it is because the packaging, presentation, colors, performance, and quality are great, plus the generous pigment concentration provided that to-die-for pigmentation and coverage.; it is overall a beautiful lipstick that lipstick lovers, budget beauties and big spenders alike, will really love. Most importantly, my lips did not turn into a cracked, dry water bed during wear!

Have you tried Pat McGrath's lipsticks already? What are your thoughts?
