THE VERDICT:

Powder Foundation is arguably the most ubiquitous and preferred type of face base of Filipinas. I think I never talked with any girl who never mentioned that powder foundation is part of her top 5 makeup products. Powder Foundation is quick, easy, affordable, and formula is ideal for our tropical climate. I'm a powder foundation fiend myself and I have 12 compacts from varying brands that I use on a daily basis. When traveling, I use powder foundation 90% of the time.

Thankfully, we have more affordable powder foundation choices now compared to the last 5 years; and thanks to the inclusivity movement, brands are starting to widen their shade range. Vice Cosmetics, one of the popular celebrity makeup brands in the Philippines, came out with their own called Duo Finish Powder Foundation.

Is Vice Cosmetics Duo Finish Powder Foundation really good? Does it really suit a lot of skin tones, particularly morenas and dark skin? Let's find out!

Vice Cosmetics Duo Finish Powder Foundation features a soft, dual- finish formula that can be used wet or dry; provides medium to full coverage, promises oil control, features blurring properties, has SPF 25, US dermatologist- tested, and claims to yield zero flashback. It comes in 8 shades.

Vice Cosmetics Duo Finish Powder Foundation ingredients
First off, I love the bright pink compact; really eye- catching. The price is also conveniently imprinted on the sticker label so you don't have to go looking for it in store in case the one you're holding managed to escape the price tag department.

There are 8 shades available; it's one of the widest shade ranges for powder foundation I've seen in a drugstore brand.

For reference and just so you have an idea, I'm comparing the shades with MAC's studio fix powder foundation shade system:

TISAY: NC15
CHESA: NC20- NC25
KINESA: NC35
PUTINAMEZ: NC30
SHADE NI VICE: NC30-NC35
MOREYNA: NC40
SO PINAY!: NC42
FLAWLESSA: NC43- NC45

There are 4 fair shades, 3 warm shades, and 1 medium shade; in my opinion, the shade range covers a wide range of common Filipina skin tones and undertone for most is yellow; Kinesa is a bit on the pinkish side.

Texture is soft and bit buttery; it glides on smoothly with very little fall out; pigmentation is medium to heavy and it is unscented as well.

In this photo, I'm wearing Moreyna. I know, it looked oddly fair in the arm swatch for morenas, but when I tried it on, it suited my skin just fine. A few minutes after, it adjusted to my skin tone; this goes to show that the powder oxidizes so choose one shade lighter for normal skin and two shades light for acidic skin. With my post- beach skin tone, I can wear So Pinay! as well, but my year- round shade would be Moreyna.

Coverage is medium to full; I'm quite impressed with the pigmentation because I saw my post- acne marks disappearing when I swipe the powder on them. It doesn't look chalky and gives me that good-enough-for-work coverage than I'm-just-going-to-pick-up-groceries coverage, if you know what I'm saying. If you have heavy discolorations like me, a corrector and concealer is a must. The blurring promise is true as well; my skin looks smoother and more even when I wear this product.

It has oil control, but not that significant; it can keep my t-zone oil- free for about 2-3 hours and then I would need to retouch that's why I wear it with an oil- controlling primer underneath. If you have very oily skin, you may need to apply it using Wayne Goss's Foundation Technique.

Vice Cosmetics Duo Finish Powder Foundation is a good product: coverage is good, I love the fact that it has SPF, and I appreciate the team for trying to be inclusive with their 8- shade range. Plus it's P245 only; so affordable!

  3. I was chesa at first swipe then it oxidized and turned muddy orange after an hour. I moved up to Tisay which looked a tad light at first then blended seamlessly into flawless splendor!
