I used to own a lot of stuff when I was still living in my mother's house. To be frank, I used to be a hoarder. But getting married and settling down in a condo has forced me to change my buying habits; it was hard especially for a beauty blogger who deals with lots and lots of beauty products on a weekly basis. But I'm glad I've changed for the better and have learned to trim down my stuff, kept the ones that matter, and I've come up with my own ways to keep my flat clean, organized, and tidy.
1. I GO FOR SMART CLEANING SOLUTIONS
- Back in my childhood home, we used to have a separate bathroom cleaner, floor cleaner, surface cleaner, kitchen cleaner; all these cleaners that came in big, space- consuming jugs and jars!
I only bought a small cleaning caddy and told myself that I will only have space for things that will fit in my caddy. So instead of going for different types of cleaners, I'd go for a multi- purpose cleaner and my go- to is Pine-Sol. It's a highly concentrated product that I don't need a lot every time I clean; just 1/4 cup of Pine-Sol to a pail of water and I can clean almost every nook and cranny of my home, plus unlike most household cleaners, it doesn't reek of a strong chemical scent. I love the lemon fragrance! I can use it to clean stovetops, countertops, floors, tiles, walls, and glass.
Multi- purpose cleaners like Pine-Sol, to be honest with you, make cleaning such a breeze because you don't have to go back and forth the bathroom, mixing all sorts of cleaners; makes the job easier, I tell you!
Pine-Sol wants to change the way you clean and that is fun, enjoyable, and as a great activity for the whole family even! To encourage families to find the joy in keeping a home, Pine-Sol brings the dance challenge that started in the US to the Philippines named Pine-Sol Cleaning Dance Challenge. Participants stand a chance to win BOSE Bluetooth Bucket Speaker, BOSE Waterproof Bluetooth Speakers, and BOSE Wireless Earphones.

2. JUST 4 OF EVERYTHING
- Back home, we had TONS of everything; it's like we had 10 comforters, 20 sets of pillow cases, 3 sets of dinnerware sets to name a few; I may be exaggerating, but it felt like that!
Clearly, there's no room for 10 comforters in my house so my husband and I decided to just have 4 of everything: 4 sets of pillow cases, 4 duvet covers, 4 flat sheets, 4 pieces of each dinnerware, 4 pieces of cookware, and 4 pieces of spoon/fork/table knife/teaspoon/mini fork; we figured 4 of each item is a good gauge of the enough number of back-ups we would need in our flat.
3. EVERYTHING SHOULD FIT IN A BOX
- Thanks to Marie Kondo, our condo has gotten much tidier and we've maximized our space! We told ourselves that if it won't fit in a box, we won't buy/get it and if we want to buy something, then we should donate or sell something first.

4. ONE WORD: WHITE!
- Did you know colors play a lot in making a home feel more spacious and cleaner? White has a widening effect to the space, plus the clean, fresh look of it makes your home feel cleaner. It's just a little hard to maintain because it gets dirty overtime so I make sure to Pine-Sol the walls and cabinets every month to keep it looking white for a long time.
How about you? What are condo cleaning and organizing tips?

This helps a lot. Marie Kondo’s influence is truly amazing especially for people who have trouble with organizing and letting go.
ReplyDeleteIts a lot harder to tidy up the way I want to because of the kids but I like your idea of 4 of everything. Will try that next weekend.
ReplyDeleteTried 4 of everything but had to increase to 8 due to extended family and kids. It was nice though to have sets.
