TBJ TRAVELS USA 6: Dining and Shopping in Las Vegas

For our last day in Las Vegas, let's check out some of the dining and shopping spots I've been to.

Las Vegas may be the 28th largest city in the United States of America, but I feel that this is more tourist- friendly than LA because of the proximity of the lifestyle and entertainment establishments to each other; everything's close by so you can watch a show one second, shop the next, and dine afterwards, therefore saving you more time from traveling. When it comes to dining, there are a lot of options in Las Vegas as well; of course mostly are mid to high- priced restaurants, but there are lots of affordable eats waiting to be discovered as well.

SHOPPING IN LAS VEGAS

Miracle Mile is one of the malls by the strip; this long mall (true to its name!) is a mix of restaurants, cinema, and low, mid, and high- priced brands so there's always an option for every budget.

Miracle Mile is located beside Planet Hollywood.

When people say shopping in Las Vegas, one thing comes to mind: OUTLETS!

Las Vegas North and South Premium outlets are the go- to shopping destinations in Las Vegas. Brands like Underarmour, Sunglass Hut, Michael Kors, Coach, Kate Spade, Lacost True Religion, The Gap, Tumi, and more can be found in these outlets.

South outlet is air-conditioned and has fewer high end options. North outlet is an outdoor- type outlet and during summer, it can get hot, but it's pretty bearable because there are sprinklers all over the complex to keep you cool.

Personally, I like North Premium outlet because of the brand options; my favorite brands such as Lacoste and Underarmour can be found here. South Premium outlet is good too, but most of the brands there, you can find at North Premium outlet as well.

One great find I scored from South premium outlet is a pair of Gianni Versace sunnies from 15k to 7k (in pesos) only! As for North premium outlet, I scored a pair of True Religion jeans from 10k to 4k (in pesos) only and was part of a pretty recent collection. AMAZEBALLS!

You will also find a lot of Filipinos shopping in the Las Vegas North and South premium outlets; most of them are reselling the items!

TIP: Las Vegas sales tax is 8.25%. Relatively cheaper than Los Angeles. June is also a great time to go because it's End Of Spring sale and most items are discounted on the rack and will have additional discount upon checkout.

DINING IN LAS VEGAS

Spago is one of the popular fine dining restaurants in the US. Founded and operated by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, Spago is well- known for its modern Italian/American fusion cuisine. The Las Vegas branch has moved inside Bellagio Hotel.

Prosciutto and bread for starters. I like the not-too-chewy-not-too-hard consistency of the bread and the sweet/tangy sauce that dot the plate.

Lamb Pappardelle. A tube- type pasta made with tomato- based sauce and lamb. I love the sauce, but not the size LOL.

Risotto with shrimp. Creamy risotto with just the right texture and saltiness.

Bread on the house. We asked for two of this to save money TROLOLOL!

Overall, Spago is okay. Just like my experience in 208 Rodeo, Los Angeles, I can't help but compare the taste of the food back home and my Asian palate is getting in the way. At least our bill this time wasn't as ridiculous as 208 Rodeo's and we have the view of the Bellagio Fountain and the fountain show while dining.

OTHER RESTAURANTS TO CHECK OUT: Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen, The Giada restaurant. For affordable eats, there's In N Out at The Linq, $12 steaks at Tony Roma's in Fremont (starts at 4pm), Ramen-Ya at Bally's hotel (highly recommended by budget travelers), and kebab stalls at Bally's hotel complex.
