Hola! Welcome to Day 5 of our USA trip! This time, I'll take you around Las Vegas.
LAS VEGAS- the 28th largest city in the United States. Dubbed as the entertainment capital of the United States and playfully called 'sin city' by some. Did you know that Las Vegas is visible from space at night due to the sheer amount of lights that turn on at night in the city? Also, as an Oasis, Las Vegas has limited water supply so they recycle water strictly. And it will also take you 200+ years to stay in all the 105,000+ hotel rooms in Las Vegas and those numbers are increasing every year!
There are lots of things to do in Las Vegas. However, these come at a cost if you truly want to experience what it's all about and that is entertainment, dining, shopping, and gambling. In this post, I'll share with you some of the free things you can do around Las Vegas.
But first, let's start with the hotel we stayed in. We stayed at Bally's, which has a wonderful location; it's in the center of the Las Vegas strip and right across the famous and luxurious Bellagio Hotel.
Bally's is about P1,000+ a night only excluding taxes and I highly recommend this place for an affordable stay with the best location in Las Vegas; it's located right at the strip! Will surely stay at Bally's again when we go back.
However, we weren't able to use the WIFI in the room because it wasn't working at all. The concierge refunded the resort taxes we paid (which is a lot!) because of this. Great customer service!
Now here are the free things to do in Las Vegas:
1. TAKE YOUR PHOTOS AT THE LAS VEGAS SIGN
The famous Las Vegas sign sits at the entrance of Las Vegas boulevard; a lot of tourists go here and line up to have their photos taken at the sign as proof that they have been to Las Vegas indeed LOL.
To get here, just take an Uber! It's about 3-5 minutes away from the strip.
2. STROLL ALONG LAS VEGAS STRIP
The famous Las Vegas Strip is the center of entertainment; you'll see here all the best shows, from theatre shows to street shows, restaurants, and hotels. The place is just brimming with life and you can literally spend the whole day just marveling at the shows, structures, and people watching; it's a feast for the senses!
3. GO HOTEL HOPPING
The hotels in Las Vegas are pretty epic; each having their own special feature and offering. For example, Luxor is famous for its pyramid design and laser light that flashes all the way to the sky at night. Bellagio is famous for the fountain show and botanical observatory. Caesar's Palace is famous for their castle- like interior. Paris Hotel has mini versions of Arc De Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower.
Entrance to the hotels is free; it's one great, free activity to do when in Vegas because you will get to see some of the best hotels in the world!
Caesar's statue at Caesar's Palace Hotel. This hotel is massive!
TBJ TIP: There's a train that takes you from one hotel the other in case you don't want to walk or have a hard time walking. The train is on the side where Bally's, Paris, and Planet Hollywood are located and runs up and down this side of the strip; just go to the basement of these hotels to board the train.
4. CHECK OUT THE LAS VEGAS HIGH ROLLER
- The Las Vegas High Roller is a gigantic Ferris Wheel that offers you a good view of the city. Of course, riding it has a fee, but you can visit anyway and just take photos around the area. The Linq is the hotel near High Roller so be sure to visit; there's also In N Out restaurant by this area.
5. VISIT FREMONT STREET EXPERIENCE
- Fremont is dubbed as the 'old Las Vegas'; it used to be the old strip. This place has a classic vibe and has casinos, shops, and restaurants; the restaurants in this area are relatively cheaper than those in the new strip.
If you want to go souvenir shopping, visit Fremont. Fremont is also a must- visit place at night because of the fantastic ceiling lights show.
6. WATCH THE BELLAGIO FOUNTAIN SHOW
- The Bellagio Fountain show is a must- see for tourists; the sprawling fountain conducts shows every day starting at about 4pm and happens every 15 minutes. Grab a cup of joe or a cool drink so you can beat the Vegas heat, watch the show, and marvel at this mega structure!
That's all for the must- visit places and free things to do in Las Vegas. For our last day tomorrow, I'll take you to some of the best dining and shopping spots!
