THE VERDICT:

Before, when I hear the term 'Natural Makeup', I used to think low performance, not long- lasting, and oftentimes, poorly pigmented makeup; I've used a couple of natural makeup-makeup products made with all- natural ingredients-and these ring true; I always end up with a 'meh' look with natural makeup.

But that was long ago. With the advancement in cosmetic science, natural makeup have already come a long way and can now compete with makeup products that are made with synthetic ingredients. One of these products is The Body Shop; I recently tried their Own Your Naturals eyeshadow palette and Happy Go Lash mascara; with my experience, I could say that natural makeup can be high performance too!

The Body Shop Own Your Naturals Eyeshadow palette is a 12- piece, pigmented eyeshadow palette with ingredients derived from 99% natural origin; this means that the pigments, extracts, and other ingredients that help the product deliver were guaranteed to be as natural as possible; if there was room for any synthetic ingredient, most likely these are preservatives. But don't be afraid of preservatives! Manufacturers only use a minute amount of preservative (it's not even enough to penetrate your skin!) to improve the product's shelf life and to keep bacteria from forming in the product and transferring to your face.

This sleek palette is beautifully conceptualized; I like the tropical artwork (anything baby pink with tropical leaves works for me!) and the textured surface of the eyeshadows gave it a cool twist.

Own Your Naturals eyeshadows come in matte, shimmer, satin, and metallic finishes. Here are the swatches.

The eyeshadows are absolutely smooth and buttery, and pigmentation is medium to heavy.  The eyeshadows are enriched with Marula Oil, which give superior blendability. Surprisingly, when I tried to remove the swatches from my arm, some of the colors stayed! This is a good sign that on its own, the products have okay staying power. I still wear it with primer though.

Happy Go Lash Mascara is a volumizing mascara that is also made with ingredients derived from 99% origin. The long, semi- slim wand packed with bristles is great for volumizing and for coating lower lashes.

The mascara has a semi- whipped consistency; it needs drying time in between before you can build it up. I get slightly fuller lashes with this mascara, not really a volumized one so I think this mascara is best for those with semi-lush lashes to begin with because it will amplify and improve such lashes. Staying power is okay; it's not waterproof though.

Own Your Naturals eyeshadow palette has been my go- to eyeshadow palette lately because it's safe for work, very easy to use, and doesn't really need great color- coordinating skills to make it work so I'd say this is everyday and newbie- proof. Between the two, I love the eyeshadow palette and I recommend it!
