THE VERDICT:
One thing I realized when I visited the US is a super inclusive foundation range is becoming a normal thing for them nowadays; here in PH, we only know of Fenty Beauty's 40- strong shade range; but specifically in the US, there are a lot and what I remember are Make Up For Ever's 40- shade HD Foundation range, Juvia's Place 42- shade I Am Velvety Matte foundation range, Morphe's 60 (YES!)- shade fluidity foundation and concealer range, and Flesh Beauty's 40- shade range for Firm Flesh Thickstick Foundation, which I'm going to review today.
Flesh Beauty is one of the new and promising US-based beauty brands; I discovered it in Ulta while I was strolling up and down the makeup aisles and their glaring display of 40 shades of Firm Flesh foundation caught my eye. 'How cute', I thought to myself because the stick foundations come in pocketable sizes. I purchased one to find out if this is something worth raving about back home and sending the followers of this blog to an online ordering frenzy LOL.
So, any good?
Ingredients |
Flesh Firm Flesh Thickstick Foundation is a range of medium-to-full coverage stick bases that can be used as foundation, for contouring, highlighting, and concealing, plus comes in a travel- friendly size, thus aiming to be your go- to for base needs; it contains pigment intensifiers that prevent ashy color payoff on dark shades, comes in 40 shades, cruelty- free, paraben- free, and fragrance- free.
The shade I got is Biscuit; I was choosing between this and Coconut, but oddly, for a 40 shade range, it seems to still need some in between shades because in my experience, it's either the candidate shades for me were too light or too warm. I chose Biscuit in the end even if it's a wee bit lighter than my skin tone.
You know, when you're on a vacation, you tend to throw caution to the wind. I knew that this is a tiny product at $18, but since I was on a vacation, I thought that it wasn't so bad.
After twisting the entire product out of the tube and realized that it's less than an inch tall, I then began to question my life choices LOL. IT'S WAY TOO EXPENSIVE FOR $18!
But what's done is done; here I am back home with the product LOL.
Anyway, Biscuit is a golden medium shade with heavy yellow undertone; it's somewhat in between NC35 and NC40 (MAC shade system reference). Texture is creamy, pigmentation seems heavy in the beginning, but medium to heavy in reality once blended, and unscented.
Let's put this to the test:
Bare skin |
Flesh said that this foundation yields a dewy matte finish. Check. Since coverage is medium to heavy and I would need concealer and corrector for my under eyes and heavy discolorations, it makes me wonder why they called this Thickstick in the first place; maybe they were referring to the shape of the product and not really the formula?
I digress. One great thing about this product is for a cream foundation, it's very easy to blend, sets nicely on the skin, feels light, and looks very natural; as natural and light as Make Up For Ever HD Stick Foundation, but this one looks more dewy matte.
Biscuit is a tad bit lighter than my skin tone, but it can be easily fixed with bronzer and shade- matching powder. Staying power is okay: about 3 hours before my t-zone begins to oil up while the rest of my face looks okay until day's end, but still needs to be retouched.
Overall, this is just an okay product, but probably wouldn't shell out $18 for it again just because of the size; sheesh! To put into perspective, $18 is about P936 and with that, you can go for drugstore stick foundations like Maybelline, BYS, and Revlon; a bit more affordable and contain way more product than Flesh.
