Yesterday, we talked about the biggest makeup trends of 2020; today, let me share with you 10 of the biggest skin care themes and trends of 2020; some of these have had their start in 2019 and will just carry over or rise to stardom this year.
From the new replacement of glass skin to skin care that prevents pollution from wreaking havoc on the skin, 2020 is just going to be so exciting for skin care junkies like me! Read on!

1. CREAM SKIN
- Move, glass skin. Cream skin is now the new trend in K-Beauty and will soon take over the world.
A complete anti-thesis of Glass Skin, Cream Skin is a look characterized by semi- matte, bouncy, well hydrated- looking skin; the Cream Skin look is actually inspired by Laneige's new product called Cream Skin, a fusion of toner and melted cream in one product; according to product description available online, Laneige's Cream Skin refiner tones and moisturizes skin very well that there's no need any longer to use a separate moisturizer.

2. ACIDS
- Acids have had a great 2019 as more people have started to incorporate this wonder skin care ingredient in their routines (I can vouch for this!).
This year, expect acids to rise to incredible heights; this basically means more acid- based skin care options for us and hopefully, at affordable price points too.

3. RETINOL
- Anti- aging will always be big each year, but this year, Retinol will take the spotlight once again. It was once a holy grail for anti- aging skin care users, but it somehow got lost in the mix when facial oils and acids came into the picture. This year, Retinol will rise from the ashes especially since consumers are now more educated when it comes to skin care ingredients and will rediscover once again the power of Retinol for aging skin.

4. CLEAN BEAUTY
- No we are not talking about organic or natural beauty; we're talking about transparency in ingredients, formulas, and labels. The Internet has opened up consumers to a variety of ways to guarantee that their skin care routine is safe or effective, and this created the demand for manufacturers and brands to be more transparent when it comes to labeling beauty products and the information they feed consumers.

5. REUSABLE BEAUTY
- Reusable cotton pads, wipes, makeup removers, and sanitary pads; sustainability and slow spending will be one of the big skin care themes of the year so expect indie, green brands to take centerstage this 2020.

6. SKIN CARE DIET
- Even Koreans themselves have gotten tired of the meticulous, time- consuming 10/12/16- step skin care routines and are now adopting smaller but more effective ones. Skin Care diet is a rising trend in skin care and it focuses on a well- curated, small set of skin care products that aren't only effective and well- suited to the user, but multi- tasking as well.

7. ANTI-POLLUTION SKIN CARE
- Speaking of multi- tasking skin care, one product that falls in the category are Anti-Pollution skin care products; expect these products to take centerstage as UV damage and the growing threat of pollution on the environment and health will become a huge concern of many beauty- savvy individuals this year.
8. SUNSCREEN USAGE
- Just because...climate change. The earth is getting hotter and people are feeling it on their skin; more individuals will begin to make sunscreen a staple in their routine so expect more sunscreen variations and brands to come out this year.
9. FACIAL MASSAGING AND CLEANING DEVICES
- Because people are now into skin care more than ever, consumers will learn and embrace the importance of effective cleansing and facial massage as great benefits for genuinely healthier skin, thus facial massaging and cleaning devices will boom.
Also, Technology in beauty will be one of the big themes this 2020 and beyond. AI- powered skin care product and device sets, skin care apps that lets you measure your skin's hydration level, and smart tools that let you cleanse and measure your skin's health will soon dominate skin care routines.

10. AFFORDABLE LUXURY SKIN CARE
- Thanks to Deciem, a wide range of consumers including the ones on a budget have finally gained access to potent skin care ingredients that were once exclusive to clinics and high- end skin care. This also means potential big growth for the Masstige division of skin care, or drugstore and department store products that are affordable, but have the feel of luxury products.
What this means for us is more high quality, high performance skin care products at affordable price points.
Which skin care themes and trends are your excited about this 2020?

Skincare is a must.
ReplyDeleteA diet in skincare is a must...I came to realize that I produce a lot waste following 10 steps routine.
ReplyDeleteSkin Care Junkie here! YES on reusable beauty (especially washable cotton pads, wipes and make-up remover). YES on anti-pollution skin care (just bought the foundation from happy skin). YES to sunscreen (started quite late on this, already 30+ when i started on skin care, but its never too late). This blog is the perfect way to start my 2020 skin care journey. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteOMG YES! These are all in my mind lately! I'm glad were being progressive about skin these days. So excited about anti pollution lines. Sobrang need dito sa Pinas :(
ReplyDeleteAffordable Luxury Skincare is exciting!! I’ce used acids last quarter of 2019 which helps my skin a lot. Now, I really wanted to try using retinol as part of my skincare routine. Reusable Beauty will be vey helpful for me and my 3 daughters as well!
ReplyDeleteWow, skincare is the focus this year. It really matters to have great skin.Thank you for this. I learned a lot from this post. Antipollution is a must, especially the fact that I commute going to work. Aside from that sunscreen I currently keep.
ReplyDeleteI am excited about everything especially the reusable beauty as I have been doing ways to minimize my waste and as well as the clean beauty as most of the beauty products right now are leaning towards no animal testing. And acids lez go drunk elephant! Haha
ReplyDeleteUyy, ngayon ko lang narinig ang Crean Skin, di ko pa nga na-achieve yung glass skin tapos may bagong trend na naman hahaha grabe na ituuu. I'll google it and search for photos about Cream Skin kasi 'di ko s'ya totally ma-imagine. Hehehe. And also I like the fact na maraming skincare brands ngayin ang very transparent na sa kung anu anong ingredients and formulations ang gamit nila sa kanilang products. I think that is really a must.
