THE VERDICT:

Whenever I receive PR packages, I tend to gravitate towards products and brands that I am familiar with and stash away those that I barely know in the "to try soon" section of my backups drawer.

Sephora has recently sent me a box of beauty products that contains 90% products that I have not tried yet. Discovery is one of the joys and essences of beauty blogging so I thought, "Why not?" I've decided to try a few and I've uncovered a gem called Gallinee Soothing Cleansing Cream; it's the best hair product discovery that I've had lately. Let me tell you why!

Ingredients

Gallinee is a UK-based beauty brand focused on innovative skin and hair care. Gallinee Soothing Cleansing Cream is part of the first prebiotic hair care range that is aimed at balancing and caring for the natural microbiome of the scalp for healthier hair. Formula is non- foaming, dermatologically- tested, suits all scalp types including sensitive, and free from sulphates, soap, colourants, parabens, mineral oil, silicones, microbeads, phenoxyethanol, and methylisothiazolinone.

This cleansing cream is packed with a lot of benefits so let me detail it with you:

1. Fermented Rice Water- an ancient ingredient used in traditional hair wash; contains Saccharomyces known to keep hair shiny and healthy.

2. Ultra Gentle Cleansing Base- a non- foaming base made from coconut and fruit sugars that's 100% non-ionic and natural.

3. Lactic Acid- a gentle AHA that helps maintain the scalp's natural pH and has softening and hydrating properties.

4. Prebiotics- a mix of ultra gentle fibres and sugars that supports the skin's barrier with antibacterial properties.

5. Marufa Oil- deeply moisturizing and protective, and ideal for scalp use.

6. Tocopherol- or Vitamin E. An antioxidant that helps prevent aging.

Consistency is a light cream; it's not too creamy and not too runny; it has a fruity floral scent, but I could sniff a hint of sourness, which is perhaps due to the fermented and probiotic ingredients; the smell isn't that bothersome though; I just had to put that detail.

What's the buzz with probiotic for the scalp? We have to note that the scalp is also covered with skin that requires the right care and products; it's just that we tend to forget about this fact because it's covered with hair so we wash it with any cleanser, which are oftentimes filled with harsh surfactants that strip the scalp of its natural oils, thereby making it much oilier, drier, and more prone to dandruff. 

Like the skin on our face and body, the scalp also has pH that we have to maintain and take care of and probiotic helps with that; probiotics feed the scalp with good bacteria to keep the microbiomes balanced and support the skin's barrier, which helps prevent dryness and dandruff.

In the beginning, I didn't know how to treat this product because it is marketed as a cleanser, but consistency is like conditioner. I thought, it may function as both so I decided to use it as my shampoo and conditioner. Instructions say to leave it on for at least a minute before rinsing.

After rinsing, I was amazed at how soft my hair felt apart from feeling really clean. After blow- drying, my hair felt light and my scalp felt "breezy" and clean, if that makes sense! I've used it for 2 weeks straight now at twice a week usage and it's the perfect in-between cleanser when my hair feeling heavy from all the silicones and creams from commercial shampoo and conditioner. I also use this when I'm in a hurry because it's a shampoo and conditioner in one.

The only downsides of this product are 1. It doesn't mask natural scalp odor, but doesn't exacerbate it either. 2. It has no frizz controlling properties.

To be honest, I don't really mind the two caveats because I love how this cleanser makes my hair feel and the fact that it makes me feel that the formula is keeping my scalp healthy.

Highly recommended as a shampoo alternative and for those with sensitive scalp!
