Yesterday was the beginning of Metro Manila's community quarantine and today, the start of the enhanced community quarantine. If you have no business outside and your company has allowed you to work from home, by all means, stay at home and help minimize the spread of the disease; one healthy, uninfected person means one step closer to putting a stop to the disease. Go out only if you really have to.
That said, I have compiled thirty things that you can do at home during the 30 day Coronavirus Covid 19 enhanced quarantine in Manila. If you treat it as an enriching period, then it wouldn't be as boring as you think!
1. Rediscover books. Try to read 1- 2 a week. You don't need to go out to stock up on books; purchase e-books instead.
2. Enroll in free online workshops that will teach you a new technical skill (marketing, sales, SEO, e-commerce, management).
3. Declutter.
4. Turn the quarantine as preparation for a money- making opportunity; re-assess your closet and collection, choose those that you can sell, set up a shop online (Facebook or Instagram), and start making money off the things that have been collecting dust in your home.
5. Give your shoes a cleaning treat; make sure to sanitize the soles.
6. Look for a new recipe and whip up a meal for yourself.
7. Cook your specialty for the family.
8. Reconnect with your family; strike up a good ol', long chat with them and if you can, stick with positive topics; let's try to not add more stress to our current situation.
9. Got a musician in the family or you are musically- talented yourself? Whether it's a guitar, piano, or whatever musical instrument, pick it up and have a music session with your family.
10. Do a general cleaning of your home with your family.
11. Give your pets a bath.
12. Look up exercises that you can do at home and stay fit.
13. Keep an eye on important, factual, and legitimate information regarding COVID-19 and share online to inform and educate others.
14. Learn to bake.
15. Be a proactive citizen even if you're just staying at home; encourage others to support our medical and military front-liners fighting Coronavirus Covid 19 by sharing legitimate information on where to donate medical supplies, food, and money to support their efforts.
16. Offer to assist your young siblings/relatives with their online lessons.
17. Treat yourself to a long, luscious bath.
18. Start a gratitude journal.
19. Start a pampering sesh and bonding time with mom.
20. Explore meditation and other de-stressing methods that don't require a lot of money.
21. Karaoke time!
22. Play card and board games with the family.
23. Catch up on sleep!
24. Pick up a new mechanical skill such as plumbing, changing a tire, or basic construction through Youtube.
25. Start that DIY project that you have been putting off for months.
26. Brush up on some skills that you haven't been using for a while.
27. If there is an opportunity to help the front- liners without being physically present in the front lines such as preparing/sending food and supplies, do it!
28. Make a vision board; compile the things that you want to achieve, have, and visit this year and in the next five years; it's actually a "light in the tunnel" activity that will help minimize all the anxiety for the future brought about by the current pandemic.
29. Pray. Pray hard for yourself, your family, and those who cannot afford to stay home and miss a day's work.
30. Sit back and think of the lessons and realizations that you gained from the current situation; list down the positive experiences that you will keep and the negative ones that you vow to slowly let go starting today.
2020 may not have gotten off at a great start, but as always, there is a silver lining in every storm.
Keep safe, everyone! Remember, it is our responsibility to look after each other.
