One well- known skin care that is having a resurgence as of late is Vitamin E. Thanks (and also, no thanks. I shall explain this later) to viral beauty guru videos featuring Vitamin E online, good ol' Vitamin E is seeing a new light and everyone is starting to see the value of this potent, cult classic skin care ingredient that is great for anti-aging and skin health protection.
VITAMIN E: BENEFITS
Vitamin E is known scientifically as Tocopherol or Tocotrienols. It is a naturally- occurring component of the body, but gradually decreases as we age. Thankfully, Vitamin E is one of the easiest components to replenish through topical and oral products because of its fat soluble nature, allowing it to penetrate the skin's natural barrier.
Vitamin E can be created naturally and synthetically. Vitamin E that's derived naturally comes from vegetable oils and is preceded by the prefix d (d-alpha tocopherol) and synthetically- derived Vitamin E is preceded by dl (dl-alpha tocopherol).
Vitamin E is a great anti-aging ingredient; since it's an antioxidant, it protects the cell membrane from various environmental damage such as photo damage (sun damage), pollution, and other related stresses that can cause premature aging.
It is not really a secret, but the skin care savvy public is becoming more aware now that Vitamin E and Vitamin C go well together. If used together, both become an anti- aging power duo that protects and regenerates the skin: Vitamin E protects cells from damage while Vitamin C helps cells regenerate.
VITAMIN E: SIDE EFFECTS
As I mentioned in the intro of this post, no thanks to some beauty influencers, certain Vitamin E products are being used incorrectly and with risk involved. Some influencers are popping Vitamin E capsules and applying the oil directly on the skin; aside from being meant for oral use, Vitamin E capsules are not formulated for skin care usage and the dosage and formulation may be too high for skin use and can cause clogged skin and breakouts plus redness and sensitized skin. It's best to use Vitamin E products are that are meant for skin care use.
