Okay, students pf beauty. Time for us to get to know skin care products more through another Ingredient of The Week blog post.
Btw, are you enjoying these posts? Let me know and let me know if there's one ingredient that you would like me to discuss.
The Vitamin family is one of the leading active ingredient sources for most skin care products because since they're naturally- occurring in the body, they're generally safe to use topically plus we all know for a fact that vitamins are good and essential for a healthy body and the skin.
Aside from Niacinamide, one of my favorite skin care actives is Panthenol also known as Vitamin B5.
Panthenol is a substance that comes from Panthotenic Acid; this acid is found in most food and plant sources. Panthenol, when absorbed into the body, is converted into Vitamin B5. Panthenol is listed in the following names in skin care products: Provitamin B5, Butanamide, Dexpanthenol, and D-Pantothenyl Alcohol.
PANTHENOL: BENEFITS
A lot of skin care formulations use Panthenol because it promotes hydration, healthy, shiny skin, hair, and nails, protects against water loss, helps the body and skin retain water, and has softening properties; it also helps strengthen and protect the skin that is why a lot of topical first aid remedies such as rash creams, balms, and insect repellents have Panthenol as one of the main actives.
PANTHENOL: SIDE EFFECTS
Panthenol is tagged as safe and a low irritant, but it can cause dermatitis on sensitive skin. Most people who get forehead or scalp- focused acne may be allergic to Panthenol since a lot of hair cleansers have this as an active ingredient.
PANTHENOL: OTHER USES
- as supplement
- medicinal
If you have dry skin, limp hair, and dull nails, Panthenol can help restore them to their former glory. Here are some products with Panthenol that you should check out:

1. PANTENE CONDITIONER
- When we hear PROVITAMIN B5, Pantene always comes to mind; this conditioner brand really owned Panthenol! Look no further if you want a conditioner with a good dose of Panthenol, not to mention good too!

2. INNISFREE TRUECARE PANTHENOL 10 MOISTURE SKIN
- I just learned about this skin care line of Innisfree today and I'm super curious about this range because it contains 10% Panthenol! That's a pretty high concentration and for sure, it will result to long- lasting hydration and all day dewy, moisturized skin. This is perfect for those who have dry skin because it's moisturizing and alcohol- free.

3. DEAR, KLAIRS FUNDAMENTAL WATER GEL CREAM
- A basic moisturizer that's loaded with hydrating benefits. Formula features Jeju Green Tea water and Panthenol to keep skin quenched.

4. COSRX B5 D-PANTHENOL CREAM
- Of course Cosrx won't be late in the game and they have their own Panthenol range too. B5 D-Panthenol Cream contains 10% Panthenol and is a light moisturizer that helps retain water in the skin and has retexturizing benefits to boot.

5. BEACH HUT AFTER SUN COOLING GEL
- After a long day of commuting and being outdoors, your skin can get tender and sensitive, most especially during summer. One of my favorite things to do after field work or a full day outdoors is slathering an after sun gel to soothe, heal, and cool my skin. Beach Hut's After Sun Cooling Gel is enriched with D-Panthenol to help repair the skin barrier and trap moisture within.
That's all and I hope you learned something new today. Take care, Beshies. ;)

ReplyDeleteSometimes it's intimidating to read about new terms especially if they are unfamiliar. I personally tend to ignore it. But thank you for the info. Overtime I have to accept that I also need to be keen about these facts to truly understand what works for me and why my skin or body reacts the way it does on a certain product. 🖤
