THE VERDICT:

New month, new skin care that I've just finished using and will finally review for you guys! Apologies if I haven't been online a lot last week; I was busy talking again to partners for TBJ 11TH MEGA ANNIVERSARY. Yes, you've heard that right, folks. We are pushing through with the. anniversary this year! More details will be released soon, but for now, save the date: SEPTEMBER 2020!

Going back, I've been a Pixi fan ever since I decided to try their Glow Tonic range; it changed my skin a lot and helped me regain my confidence as it ended almost a year and a half's worth of on and off moderate to severe breakouts. I've tried so many things, but acid indeed was the only answer and I'd have to thank Pixi Glow Tonic for that.

I just finished using the Pixi Vitamin C Ferulic Acid skin care range because I had some pimple marks that won't go away so I figured to give Glow Tonic a rest and switch to a new formula; Vitamin C was all the rage about 2- 3 months ago so I decided to incorporate it again in my skin care routine.

If you want to clarify your skin and rid it of pimple marks without necessarily turning a shade lighter plus get plump, bouncy- looking skin to boot, I suggest take a look at this range!

Pixi Vitamin C Ferulic Acid is a brightening and anti- aging skin care range that features a cream-serum/mask, serum, facial lotion, toner, and cleansing water. The range is good for pigmented, aging, and sensitive skin types.

Vitamin C and Ferulic Acid are powerful together; I appreciate Pixi for coming up with this combination so that users can maximize the effects of Vitamin C in their skin. FYI, Vitamin C, on its own, has a lot of benefits, but since it is unstable, it preferably needs a booster/support ingredient to keep it from oxidizing and losing its benefits and to rev its effects on the skin.

How does Vitamin C and Ferulic Acid work together? Ferulic Acid is a type of AHA derived from rice bran; it has good anti- aging benefits and is one of the gentlest acids there is. When combined with Vitamin C, Ferulic Acid has demonstrated that it can help increase the antioxidant and photoprotection (or anti-sun damage) properties of the former; you get to maximize Vitamin C, thanks to Ferulic Acid.

Aside from that, Pixi Vitamin C Ferulic Acid skin care line features other good natural ingredients such as Orange Flower Water, Witch Hazel, Probiotics, Camellia Sinensis, Aloe Barbadensis, Lactc Acid, Grapefruit, Olive, and Tea Tree to name a few. Check out the ingredients list below.

L-R: lotion, caviar balm, serum

Here are my thoughts on the products; I've arranged the products according to how I use them every time:

Vitamin-C Juice Cleanser (P1,440 in sephora.ph)- a pre- makeup facial cleanser that can be used in lieu of facial wash to clean the canvas, as a morning wash alternative to facial cleanser and water, and a makeup remover.

The product is a moisturizing liquid, although it's not the emulsion type. It has a fragrant orange peel scent; I have to say though that the fragrance in this one is pretty strong. A little goes a long way because of its texture as it cleans thoroughly yet leaves a moisturizing barrier on the skin. My face feels really nice, clean, and supple after usage and surprisingly, it doesn't leave my skin dry and irritated, thus it's perfect for dry skin.

I have tried to use this as a pre-makeup facial cleanser; essentially, it functions as a toner/micellar water because it cleans and tones the skin (but it's gentler than micellar water); not really a fan of this method because I still am used to washing my face before putting makeup on. I prefer using it as a makeup remover and it works well in removing light to moderate makeup and even waterproof eyeliner and eyebrow products!

Unfortunately, this product is not available in the Philippines, but it can be purchased from sephora.ph.

Vitamin-C Tonic (P690 for 40ml at glamourbox.ph)- Pixi is famous for their acid- based toners and this particular product is what I am most excited about.

This toner is alcohol- free, which makes it great for dry and sensitive skin, but lends a hint of sting due to the Ferulic Acid extract; don't worry, it's completely normal and the sting is virtually non- existent; Glow Tonic stings a bit more than this one. This is a good acid- based toner to try if you have dry skin or you just don't like alcohol in your toners.

Vitamin-C Serum (P1,390 at glamourbox.ph)- a light, runny serum that brightens, corrects, and helps boost collagen production.

As you can see in the swatch, the product is indeed generous with Vitamin C extract; it has an orange fragrance and it's like I'm putting orange juice on my face, but I mean it in a good way.

This is a light serum, albeit has a bit of stickiness to it, which is probably the natural consistency of Vitamin C; I actually like it because it's pretty light on the skin and the hint of stickiness goes away after about 2 minutes, when it finally sets on the skin.

Vitamin- C Lotion (P1,905 at sephora.ph)- a semi- creamy lotion that's great for dry skin. The formula feels light when you try it on your hands, but when you put it on your face, it has the tendency to feel a bit thick because of the oil extracts in it so apply sparingly, most especially if you have oily skin.

I love using this product at night, especially during summer because it's not a thick cream, but moisturizes like one. A little goes a long way with this product and it has an energizing orange fragrance. If you find this an issue, you can try mixing the serum with your basic moisturizer to make the consistency more manageable.

Unfortunately again, this product is not available locally and can be purchased at sephora.ph. There is a trial size for sale at glamourbox.ph for P390.

Vitamin- C Caviar Balm (P1,350 at glamourbox.ph)- Pixi's balm products are multitasking creams that act as moisturizer, serum, and mask in one; this particular cream does all that plus it claims to act as primer for makeup as well.

This balm is cream, but has a semi- pasty look and feel, which is perhaps why the brand advised that it can be used as primer as well; the texture is indeed a characteristic of many primers because tackiness = long- lasting makeup, but then again, it is skin care; perhaps it may help prep the base for primer and using superior skin care products prior putting on makeup is always a good idea, but I do not think that it is an alternative to primer.

The balm is a thicker version of the lotion so I use it a lot nowadays because it's gotten much colder; my skin's cracking a bit in air- conditioning. It has orange fragrance as well and doesn't absorb as fast as the lotion so I only apply what I need. That said, this is ideal for dry to very dry and aging skin types.

1 month of using Pixi Vitamin C Ferulic Acid skin care line

My overall experience with this range can be summed in two terms: gentle brightening and youth reviving.

As mentioned, I've had post acne marks on my cheek areas and they have significantly lightened after one month of consistent use (ack! Sorry, I wasn't able to take a before and after because the pandemic truly rattled my consciousness!); they're still there, but soon to be a distant memory.

I like that during the process, I did not notice that my skin got lighter or I went up a notch in the skin tone spectrum; sure, my skin looked more radiant or even fairer, but it's because the marks and sun spots were significantly reduced and Pixi has revealed my true, even skin tone.

Another thing I noticed is some pitted scars I had became less bumpy and more filled in; it is because Vitamin C helps boost collagen production, which helps heal scars. Also, no pitted scars anymore after every breakout!

Another amazing find from Pixi; I can say that this range did not skimp on the good stuff, especially Vitamin C because I've had great results. If you've noticed in my review of the products though, I find that the consistency of the products are generally for dry skin types, not so much for oily skin types like me; I don't mind controlling my usage, but I would really appreciate it and would consider repurchasing if the formula can work well with oily skin types too.

Consistency aside, I love the formula and it's one of the more affordable serums that worked well on my post- acne marks plus the youth- boosting benefits are very much appreciated too!

P.S. Vitamin C degrades faster if placed directly under a light source or in hot conditions; best to store it in a cool place and don't place directly under sunlight or other UV sources.
