THE VERDICT:

After I have exhausted a range of skin care products in high hopes of eradicating my nearly 1 year battle with acne, I decided to finally adopt an acid- based skin care regimen. I've been reading about its benefits in the past, but decided to go with my tried and tested anti- acne products. Apparently, tried and tested was no longer working for me and my skin needed complete, advanced refinement and acids can do that.

Pixi's Glow Tonic range came just in time for my routine shift. Pixi's Glow Tonic toner became viral last year when the online beauty enthusiasts opened up to the possibility of acid usage in their skin care routines.

Just three weeks into my Glow Tonic routine and my skin has been doing FANTASTIC. It eradicated  at least 80% of 8 months' worth of acne and post- acne marks!

Pixi Glow Tonic started as a single product (the toner) and has now expanded into a full range concentrated on brightening and re-texturizing the skin. The products feature a toner, cleansing gel, serum, and sheet mask.

Pixi Glow Tonic Cleansing Gel is a soap- free cleansing gel with Glycolic Acid and hydrating properties.

Formula is made with Moisclean, a combination of Hyaluronic Acid, Ginseng, and Horse Chestnut extracts that purify, exfoliate, hydrate, and brighten the skin.

Consistency is a rich gel that doesn't lather, but still feels that it's cleansing the skin. Instructions say massage it on the skin for 30 seconds to allow the formula to dissolve makeup and shake up dead skin cells accumulated during the day. As for me, I use Foreo Luna 2 and rinse my skin for 1 minute.

It has a summer floral fragrance and doesn't sting nor leave the skin dry at all. However, it kinda' stings once it gets inside the eyes so always avoid that part when washing your face with this cleanser.

After rinsing, my face feels softer and looks brighter. Even if it's non-drying, I still follow up quickly with moisturizer to prevent my skin from being compromised by leaving it taut and dry.

Pixi Glow Tonic toner is a 5% concentration Glycolic Acid toner that the Internet has been loving since last year. This exfoliating toner performs micro- exfoliation to help skin turn over properly by effectively resurfacing dead skin cells sans harshness versus manual exfoliation. It promises to reveal healthier, brighter, smoother skin, and is safe enough to be used on a daily basis.

Like the cleansing gel, this has a summer floral fragrance. Aside from Glycolic Acid, the formula also contains Ginseng, Aloe Vera, and botanical extracts to soothe and hydrate skin while the acid does its job. Acids can be a bit drying and uncomfortable, and I'm glad Pixi has thought about adding hydrating ingredients in the formula to make the experience more comfortable and pleasing.

Use it as you would a regular toner. It doesn't feel drying, but stings a little (or a lot if you are completely new to acids or you have low tolerance) at first then you get used to it eventually. It has a safe acid concentration at 5%; I use it everyday with zero problems, but only at night because it may interfere with my makeup during daytime. But even if it's tagged as safe for daily use, still, do a patch test (important for sensitive skin!) and use every other day at first to slowly introduce your skin to the formula.

This toner is such a difference maker! I've used this a week before using the rest of the Pixi's Glow Tonic products and I've noticed that my breakouts were starting to subside and that made me decide to use the rest of the products. I was surprised that this product has finally worked for me; I broke out in my first try 2 or 3 years ago. 

Glycolic Acid, per se, is more of a brightening ingredient than an anti-acne one, but the latter is an indirect (but favorable) effect since acids, in general, encourage effective cell turnover, therefore skin heals quicker and absorbs anti- acne skin care products better.

This famous toner is more than just for facial use; I use it on my armpits (it works! My pits are brighter and it has lightened those dark weird patches that I had no idea where they came from), knees, and elbows to lighten those areas.

Pixi Glow Tonic Serum is a concentrated treatment that exfoliates, smooths, balances, and reveals brighter skin.

 The formula features Glycolic Acid and Aloe Vera to exfoliate and hydrate.

The serum has a goopy gel consistency; it's very hydrating and leaves a moisturizing barrier on the skin, but I still seal it with Pixi Rose Caviar Essence to keep the product intact. It has a summer floral fragrance as well. The goopy consistency takes a while to settle so I use either a Jade Roller or my Foreo Luna 2 to work the product in. Formula doesn't sting and feels comfortably hydrating.

I'm not quite sure what the concentration of Glycolic Acid is in this product, but I'm guesstimating that it's a little above 5% since serum is supposed to be a bit extra strength as it's a treatment product.

The first three days with this product has been incredible: my skin looked brighter, felt buttery smooth, the tiny bumps went away, and completely tamed my breakouts!

When I woke up one day during my three week affair with Glow Tonic, I checked my face in the mirror and I felt like crying because it's finally back to the skin that I once had and that I'm completely confident in.

If there's anything I learned from this experience, it's that acids work and skin care is more than just vanity-it makes a difference in people's lives.

As for the key positive results I've experienced with Glow Tonic skin care:

- No more cystic acne, although I'd still get whiteheads and blackheads every now and then. Don't mind though as long as I don't have painful, hard-to-treat cystic acne!

- Glass skin FOR REALZ

- buttery soft and smooth skin; no kidding!

- I noticed that my brightening serums work better

- Clearer- looking skin

- I can go out with little to no makeup, especially during gym time

IT'S AS IF I NEVER EXPERIENCED THAT HORRIBLE, SEEMINGLY UNTREATABLE 8-MONTH BREAKOUT WHEN I USED GLOW TONIC!

Man, I should've done this sooner. Had I known, I would have saved time and money just by using Glow Tonic. Still, I'm just thankful that this came right on time!

If you have discolorations, dullness, and oily skin, you will benefit from this skin care range. Got acne? Use in conjunction with anti-acne skin care; just make sure you space out all the acids you are using from both skin care groups and give your skin a day or two to rest and recover from all the exfoliation.
