THE VERDICT:

It's been a year since I had my hair colored; it's now looking very dry, dull, and brassy AF. My purple shampoo resigned from its post already and before leaving, she snapped her finger at me and said "Girl, 'ya don't need me; 'ya need a new hair color!" LOL

Luckily, I saw that Revlon had sent me a box of their new diy hair color called Revlon Colorsilk Urban Style. Saved!

I chose the color Matcha Beige and check out the results and my thoughts on this new hair color by Revlon!

Revlon Colorsilk Urban Style is a new range that features the latest technology in hair color: it is ammonia- free, has Keratin for long- lasting luster and color, features gel technology for a three- dimensional look, and made for Asian hair. It comes in four shades: Matcha Beige, Chestnut Mochi, Caramel Custard, and Chocolate Raspberry.

A box contains the following: Color developer, Ammonia- free colorant, After Care conditioner, and instructions manual.

HOW TO USE REVLON COLORSILK URBAN STYLE HAIR COLOR:

1. Open both bottles. Be sure to handle them properly.
2. Pour Ammonia- free hair colorant into Color Developer (white bottle). Make sure to empty everything
3. Shake thoroughly to ensure that both solutions are mixed well and that color is activated.
4. Snip the tip of the white bottle to dispense the product. Personally though, I like using a coloring bowl and brush; this way, I can maximize the product.

TIPS ON HOW TO COLOR YOUR HAIR:

1. Be sure to wear protective gear before proceeding with the hair color session: coloring cape, silicone ear guard, gloves.
2. Make sure you have completely dry hair. Day old hair is okay, but make sure it isn't too oily.
3. Avoid applying emollients such as leave- in conditioner and oil serums before coloring your hair as these might cause the cuticles to become more slippery, which may prevent the color from adhering properly.
4. To get the outcome that you desire, make sure to use the ample amount of color; for my hair length, I used two boxes.
5. Start coloring half an inch before the roots and 1-2 inches before the ends. Because the scalp is naturally warm and may accelerate the coloring process, ergo resulting to roots that are too light. Hair ends should be the last to go since they're very fine and usually end up getting lighter faster.

Here's my one year old hair color and super dry, dull, brassy hair; say hello LOL.

How did my hair coloring experience go? Here are my thoughts:

1. First off, it's very easy to use; just pour contents of one bottle into the other and you are good to go.
2. The Ammonia- free formula is real, folks; there were many instances when my dyed hair would fall right on top of my nose and it didn't feel irritated and I didn't feel light- headed at all.
3. No stinging sensation on the scalp!
4. While most hair color solutions would turn your hair really hard and hard to detangle, this one did not; my hair was virtually easy to comb, thus I got to spread out the solution even more.
5. It's so easy to rinse off! I had lots of splatter on the sink, but thankfully, a dampened cloth was only needed to wipe off the solutions. However, I can't say if it's the same case for clothes.

So I was advised by Revlon to cook the top to middle portion for 45 minutes and 45 minutes for the ends. No need to rinse before coloring the ends. The After Care conditioner is recommended to be used right after coloring; of course you can always use your preferred conditioner/hair treatment; just make sure it's sulfate- free to prevent premature fading.

Here's the result:

Tadaaahhh! New hair, new life LOL

The ends of my hair look more ashy; I'm just glad that this color masked the brassy hue on that part and gave it a matcha, golden brown color. I feel like a brand new person lol.

The root to middle portion are more on the brownish side, as shown on the box. The good thing about this product is it shows a diagram of the outcome of the color depending on the existing color it will be applied on; I like that they were able to manage my expectation on the color output that I would get.

Are there any cons? One that I can think of is since it's made with Gel technology, it is primarily water- based and this may have an effect on the color intensity and payoff of the product; I noticed that some of my brassy strands still looked a bit brassy, but at least a majority were covered; this is also why I think I had to use two boxes, as advised by Revlon.

Overall, Revlon Colorsilk Urban Style is a great way to sport easy, trendy hair at home, plus it's one of the most user- friendly DIY hair color kits I have used. I recommend Matcha Beige if you're looking for an ashy type of brown.

Have you tried this product already? What are your thoughts?
