BEAUTY BATTLES: Best DIY Hair Removal Wax Kit (Strip It! VS. Nanny Rose)

 

Time for another Beauty Battles blog post and this time, let's take a look at two of the known Filipino indie DIY hair removal wax kit brands that a lot of us have come to love: STRIP IT! and NANNY ROSE.

Since a lot of you may still not subscribe to the idea of visiting a physical waxing salon to get hair professionally removed, a DIY wax is the next best available option.

I personally love at- home waxing even before the pandemic because it's cost- effective, saves me time, and I love the idea that the products I'm using are all- natural.

I've personally used both simultaneously over the years. So which one is the best for me? Find out.

THE LOWDOWN:

Strip It! is a Filipino DIY hair removal brand that started out as a thesis by Entrepreneurship graduate, Arlette Alvarado, and eventually turned it into her bread and butter, and has been serving as such for over 10 years.

Strip It! is made from all- natural honey. There are two variants: Original with Kalamansi extract to help lighten the skin and Chocolate with cacao extract for thick, coarse hair. Each Strip It! kit comes with a spatula, cloth pack, and instructions pamphlet. Sizes available are 80g, 150g, and 300g.

Nanny Rose is a waxing kit made with all- natural honey and sugar ingredients. If I'm not mistaken, the brand has been around for over 5 years and has since expanded to a wider range of natural products for wellness, hair, and skin. Each kit comes with waxing cloths and two spatulas; sizes available are 30g, 100g, and 200g.

QUALITY:

Each brand comes with neat, useful additions so you can have the complete waxing experience at home. But Nanny Rose has generous additions such as an extra spatula. I also think that Nanny Rose's waxing cloth seems to be sturdier than Strip It's (But please note that I've been using Strip It for years now and I've never experienced any of their wax cloths ripping during the waxing process).

At first glance, it may seem that Nanny Rose is cheaper than Strip It, but when you look at the sizes of the jars, Strip It turns out to be cheaper after all.

WINNER: STRIP IT!

PERFORMANCE:

Both can be used warm and in its room temperature state. Both have a sticky yet pliable consistency, but Strip It is stickier, which explains why it removes hair better in my experience.

I've used Nanny Rose for a couple of times, but it just couldn't remove a significant amount of hair from me; there was even a time when it didn't remove anything at all! I've tried it cool and warm, but to no avail; their wax is also harder to dissolve and rinse off. Btw, Nanny Rose is best used warm.

Strip It, on the other hand, has always been lovely. I've been using this quite regularly for the last 10 years now and it's still the same, lovely formula that removes hair, whether coarse or fine, and leaves my pits smooth and hair- free. It's also so easy to rinse off and dissolve!

WINNER: STRIP IT!

I have friends who love Nanny Rose because according to them, it works, but I have noticed that most of these friends of mine have fine hair.  If you have fine hair, maybe Nanny Rose may work for you, but personally, I will recommend Strip It! because it's been tried and tested by me for the last 10 years, easier to use than Nanny Rose all in all, and works whether you have thick or sparse hair!
