THE VERDICT:
Normally, when I review skin care, it takes me about more than 3 months because aside from daunting backlogs, it also takes a while for me to see the difference in my skin because to be frank, I don't have big skin problems to begin with.
But good skin care makes you realize that there is still room for improvement in your skin even when you think it is just okay.
So I felt compelled to share with you the magic that is Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Vitamin C skin care range because this skin care line has made my skin better and has been keeping it that way by giving me even, smooth, bright skin. I also wanted to tell everyone who's into Vitamin C that this is the gentlest Vitamin C skin care range I have tried because it's non- sting and doesn't give me sensitive skin even after weeks of consistent usage.
Ole Henriksen is a perhaps a familiar name to some of you because he is one of the seasoned beauty experts in the USA and a household name in Hollywood's backstage beauty scene (call him a celeb secret if you must). Henriksen is a cosmetician who started in Beverly Hills, became acclaimed for his celeb- favorite treatments and preparations, and eventually became a manufacturer for his namesake skin care brand. Ole Henriksen's skin care is built around his Beverly Hills spa's signature approach to skin care: CLEANSE, TREAT, SOOTHE and is driven by the philosophy that great skin starts with a positive, joyous outlook followed by a simple, powerful approach and range of products.
Banana Bright skin care is a range that marries function and treatment with Vitamin C, exfoliating acids, and Banana powder- infused products to give you even, youthful, bright, and bouncy skin; this triad of his signature ingredients is also called the OLE GLOW.
The history behind the concept of the range is this: Ole Henriksen used to love how Banana Powders would brighten the skins of models while they're being made up backstage so he decided to make his Vitamin C range even more multitasking with the infusion of banana powder so it's complementary to makeup and users can instantly see the effect on their skin.
Banana Bright skin care range features a facial cleanser, eye creme, serum, gel creme moisturizer, and face primer.
P.S. I just learned that Ole Henriksen used to be a dancer and has some serious gymnastics skills!
Banana Bright Vitamin C Eye Creme ingredients
This eye creme is well- loved by beauty editors and gurus around the world for its super moisturizing, soothing, firming, and brightening formula and even more so, for its instant brightening effect on the under eyes due to banana powder.
Banana Bright Vitamin C Serum ingredients
An age- defying serum that has 15% Vitamin C, 5% PHAs, and 8% Hyaluronic Acid for smooth, clear, bouncy skin. An 8- week clinical trial of the product among women revealed that they have experienced brighter, bouncier skin after consistent use of the product.
Banana Bright Vitamin C-Rush Brightening Gel Creme ingredients
This gel creme moisturizer has three kinds of Vitamin C: Ascorbic Acid, Ole's gold standard in Vitamin C, to address visible signs of aging, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid to help stabilize Ascorbic Acid, and Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, a stable form of vitamin C known for its antioxidant benefits. It also has Rose Winter extract to nourish and condition the skin.
L-R: Vitamin C Serum, Eye Gel Creme, and Gel Creme Moisturizer
First off, the range has a juicy banana-orange fragrance. It has pretty strong sillage, but thank goodness, the fragrance doesn't have that syrupy, artificial, borderline cough syrup scent that's really off- putting. The fragrance is just enough to mask the strong odor of Vitamin C and provides an uplifting effect to your senses; this is why I love using the eye cream in the morning because the fragrance energizes me.
Banana Bright Vitamin C Serum has a liquid-creme consistency; it's very lightweight and easy to spread. This one seems to have the highest concentration of Banana Powder, but it gladly did not give my skin an odd, yellowish tone. It's actually nice to use under makeup because the yellowish hue gives my skin a more even tone.
Banana Bright Vitamin C Eye Gel Creme is a bouncy, light cream; it's more cream than gel and has a nice, yellowish hue. I also think that the formula has micro shimmer in it to instantly brighten the under eyes. Normally, I don't like shimmer in my skin care because I feel that they will clog my skin, but I can let this pass since I use this product on the under eyes only; if this were the moisturizer, I may have to think twice.
Banana Bright Vitamin C Gel Creme Moisturizer has a nice, bouncy texture. It's great for day and night use. The texture is great to be used under makeup and despite the high concentration of Vitamin C, my face didn't feel sensitive under the sun ever whenever I will use it during daytime.
I've been using the range for a little over a month now and I love the result on my skin: I've noticed that this dark cast over my skin (which I think is damage caused by sun exposure) seems to have faded, which has resulted to a more even skin tone. It has also helped fade the stubborn post- acne marks on my cheeks, which stopped responding to acids and the skin care products that I was using prior. I also noticed that my skin looks more plump and bouncier! My skin's texture feels much smoother and refined after consistent usage because the Polyhydroxy Acids (PHA) did a great job at resurfacing new skin. I'll talk about PHAs in a separate post!
What I love about this range is the formula is quite mild; I didn't experience any stinging sensation while I was using the products. I've used a couple of Vitamin C products before and their formulas yielded a bit of sting, but not this one. I also think PHA has contributed to this skin care line's gentle formulation: some Vitamin C skin care lines have AHA as one of the ingredients and they penetrate the skin more than PHA, which can cause irritation especially for sensitive skin types while PHA only works at the surface level of the skin, therefore less irritation and it may be shielding the skin from the stinging effect of Ascorbic Acid or Vitamin C.
Another thing to love is despite the makeup ingredient in the formula, the banana powder, I didn't get any breakout from usage.
Sharing with you a close- up of my under eyes that's being treated with Ole Henriksen's eye cream for a little over a month now. Apologies, I wasn't able to take a before shot of my under eyes, but the short crease that starts from my tear duct used to be longer and deeper, but it got shorter and less prominent now. My dark circles seems to have been reduced too!
Overall, this is a really good anti-aging, brightening, and spot- reducing skin care line. Best for those who want all those aforementioned benefits from one skin care line and who want Vitamin C skin care without the sting. The products are a little expensive, but they're very concentrated so a little will go a long way and besides, a little is all that you need because the products have a high concentration of the actives.
