THE VERDICT:

I've been having breakouts lately because of hormones and it's exacerbated by frequent face mask usage; seems like the perfect time to try out Esfolio's new skin care line called 3HA. I've been using this for two weeks now and I'm happy to report that it works in getting rid of acne, keeping acne at bay, and it also provides gentle exfoliation and acne treatment without the sting, dryness, and redness!

3HA is Esfolio's newest  skin care line; it has 3 types of acids in the formula: AHA, BHA, and the new PHA. It also has Salicylic Acid and Tea Tree Oil, which help get rid of acne- causing bacteria and Centella Asiatica Extract that helps soothe and calm the skin. The range currently has 3 products: Clear Cleansing Foam, Clear Toner, and Clear Tea Tree Spot Oil.

PHA or Poly Hydroxy Acid is a fairly new acid family that I've been seeing in some skin care products lately; I've seen it first with Ole Henriksen's Banana Bright Vitamin C range and I'm glad to bump into it in a more affordable skin care line like Esfolio's. I'm pretty sure PHA has been around, but it's just that skin care brands are starting to make it trendy.

What are the benefits of PHA? Poly Hydroxy Acids are an even gentler alternative to Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) because it only stays at the epidermal surface to facilitate exfoliation; it doesn't go deep into the cellular layers of the skin unlike AHAs and BHAs, which makes it more ideal for those who have hypersensitive skin or who get sensitized skin quickly after using exfoliators. The most common PHAs are gluconolactone, galactosen, and lactobionic acid.

Esfolio 3HA Clear Cleansing Foam has 3HAs, Centella Asiatica, and Salicylic Acid to get rid of excess oil, dirt, and acne- causing bacteria.

It's a rich, cream cleanser that produces moderate to rich foam and has a nice, minty fragrance; the minty fragrance is so refreshing that it reminds me of a minty chewing gum; I dunno, but I like the fragrance so much! :D It rinses off easily and doesn't leave my face dry, surprisingly despite the acid content and mint extract!

Esfolio 3HA Clear Toner is made with the same goodness as the cleansing foam and has a nice, minty fragrance as well. Despite having acids in the formula, this one does not sting my skin at all! It cleans my skin thoroughly, removes unwanted dirt (I always pick up some extra dirt from my skin whenever I use this; goes to show it truly cleans thoroughly!), and gives my skin a fresh, clean feel.

Finally, Esfolio Clear Tea Tree Spot Oil is a liquid spot treatment that seems watery, but has a hint of moisture/oil in it, which allows the product to adhere better and longer on the skin. I love using this lately on my fresh zits caused by face mask usage because it has a cool, minty scent, which effectively masks the odor of Tea Tree; I also love that that acid ingredient sloughs away dead skin cells surrounding the zits, which helps the Tea Tree extract penetrate better, thus expediting the healing process.

I am happy to discover PHA in skin care; I think this is going to be the next big thing since AHA and BHA because finally, those who are sensitive to and can't withstand other forms of acid will finally be able to enjoy its benefits without the side effects; and I'm even happier to discover that Esfolio 3HA skin care is an affordable way to experience this new, formidable skin care ingredient that I think will take over the skin care industry soon!
