Is Sea Water Good For Hair?
Sea water is a natural resource that humans have been using for many centuries. It has been used to produce salt, and in some cultures it is even consumed as a beverage. But what about sea water for hair?
There are a lot of people who believe that it can be beneficial - but there are also others who say that it's not good for hair at all. In this article we'll discuss both sides of the argument before concluding with our own opinion on the matter!
Seawater Can Give Volume to Your Hair
Sea water contains a lot of minerals, and some of those minerals can increase the volume of your hair. It is these minerals that give sea water its salty taste! If you want to use seawater as a way to boost your hair's volume, then it would be best if you used it after washing your hair with shampoo or conditioner - instead of using it directly on clean hair.
This will make sure that all dirt and other product build-up does not get into contact with the saltwater - which could clog up pores and cause infections in people who have sensitive skin types.
Seawater Contains Magnesium and Potassium Which Can Improve Your Hair Health
Sea water contains many nutrients that help your hair to stay healthy. For example, magnesium and potassium are both helpful for keeping the pH of your scalp in check - which is important because having too much alkalinity can cause damage to the structure of proteins found on your hair!
It has also been suggested that if you use sea salt as a way to treat dandruff or other skin conditions, then it might be advisable to avoid using shampoo when doing so. This makes sure that all the dirt will come out of your pores naturally instead than being pushed back into them by harsh chemicals like those used in shampoos.
Seawater Has Antifungal Properties
Since seawater has salt in it, some people say that this means that seawater can act as an antifungal treatment for your hair. This is because fungus loves water - so if the water on your scalp contains a lot of salt then it will be very hard for fungi to grow there!
If you want to try using sea water as both shampoo and conditioner at the same time (which many people do during their beach vacations), then make sure not to let it stay on your head too long or else bacteria might start growing instead.
It Is an Exfoliator
Sea water can be used to exfoliate your hair and scalp. This is because it contains a lot of minerals like magnesium, calcium and potassium - all of which are great for removing dirt from the roots!
If you want to try using seawater as shampoo just remember that sea salt will not produce enough foam when mixed with water alone (which means that an additional product might need to be added in order to get things going).
It Is a Natural Shampoo
Sea water is very close to being a natural shampoo - which means that it can be used as a replacement for normal shampoos. The only thing you need to do in order to use sea water instead of your regular shampoo is mix it with some other liquid! If possible, try using an acidic liquid like lemon juice or apple cider vinegar so that the pH levels remain low and prevent scalp irritation.
It Has Antibiotic Properties for the Scalp
Sea water contains a lot of iodine which means that if you have an infection on your scalp then it might be able to help get rid of the bacteria. The best way to use seawater for this purpose is by mixing sea salt with warm water until it dissolves, and then applying the liquid directly onto where there are signs of irritation or other skin problems.
Ideally Sea Water Should Be Used after You've Shampooed Your Hair
Some people say that using sea water as shampoo after already having used regular shampoo will do more harm than good - because all the chemicals found in normal shampoos could damage hair follicles while minerals from seawater would only make things better!
If possible, try rinsing off your hair first before using the sea water - and don't leave it on your head for more than a few minutes or else bacteria could start growing instead of giving you healthier hair.
Don’t Use Seawater If You Have Used Dyes and Other Chemicals on Your Hair
Sea water can be great for your hair, but some experts say that it should not be used on the scalp if you have recently had dyes, bleaching or other chemical treatments done to it. This is because seawater could cause too much irritation and might lead to further damage instead of bettering things! If possible, try using sea salt as a way to remove chlorine from your hair after swimming in pools - since this will help prevent breakage while still removing any chemicals found in the pool's water which might affect the quality of your hair later on down the line.
It Can Be Very Hard On Your Hair
On top of all these benefits, there are also potential downsides when washing hair with seawater. For example, if you have dry hair then sea salt might exacerbate this problem since it will remove too much oil from the roots! In addition to this, many people find that their hair becomes sticky and dull after washing it with seawater! This is because the water does not contain any surfactants (which are chemicals that help to remove dirt while also reducing surface tension).
