THE VERDICT:

Hourglass was catapulted to stardom, thanks to their world- famous Ambient Lighting powders; it's pretty expensive, but people say it's d*mn worth it. Hourglass has set the bar for highlighter makeup and people loved its signature naturally- luminous finish so much that they gave it its own name called "Hourglass Glow".

I wasn't that convinced because I really thought that it was just all hype. I thought to myself, I've been in the beauty industry for so long and I know hypes can be just that-a hype.

But then again, there are some hypes that are worth it including Hourglass's Ambient Powders. It's great because I purchased a compact, but it never really crossed my mind that the palette would be worth it.

I received Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Universe Palette late last year. When I tried it, I was SHOOKT; I'm currently obsessed with it and I think if you're going to invest in an Ambient Lighting palette, get this!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Universe Palette is a limited edition palette released last December 2021. The five- pan palette features a finishing powder, 2 blushes, 1 contouring powder, and a highlighter. The powders are formulated using Hourglass's signature Ambient Powder formula and deliver a luminous, healthy skin finish.

The packaging is beautiful! It's like a marble sculpture and it feels very luxe; I enjoy seeing this on my dresser because it's so aesthetic.

There are 5 powders in the palette. Compared to the original Ambient Lighting palettes that only have highlighters, I find that this one gives more bang for my buck because it has a finishing powder, highlighter, blush, and contouring powder; it's a complete complexion palette. I find that the blushes are beautifully formulated; the shades work so well across all skin tones.

Here are the swatches:

5- Solar Strobe Light Highlighter (peach champagne)

1- Radiant Light finishing powder (shimmery medium beige; not quite sure if this is a new one or the Radiant Light powder that I have, which is more golden)

2- Coral Flush (coral pink with silver shimmer)

3- Radiant Bronze Light- medium bronze with pale gold shimmer

4- Rose Heat- dirty rose with light gold shimmer

The shades are well- curated; I find that they suit a variety of skin tones; granted, there may be some skin tones that might have a hard time making it appear, specifically deeper skin tones, but layering will solve the issue and won't be a problem because the powders are finely- milled, sheer, yet pigmented. I don't know what Hourglass did to this thing, but the powders have a really nice texture!

Ingredients

Here's me wearing Rose Heat + Coral Flush blush, Radiant Light finishing powder all over, Radiant Bronze Light as contour powder, and Solar Strobe highlighter on my apples. I mean, look at that glow! It's like the glow that you get once you've made it in life already LOL. Staying power is okay; it's not long- lasting, but I find that it stays on for a decent amount of time; staying power is not really its key feature and I think most people are okay with that because they're really after the ethereal glow that the Ambient palettes give.

TBJ TIP: I've read a lot of people saying that the powder is too shimmery to be used as a setting powder. It's not a setting powder, guys. It's a finishing powder; you're supposed to apply a sheer layer of it on top of a regular setting powder to take out the flatness of the look. Now you know!

Overall, amazing palette and I love how my skin looks whenever I use this. Piece of advice, if you're planning of investing in an Ambient Light palette, I highly recommend that you get this palette. If this is not available anymore since it's limited edition, get any Ambient Lighting palette that has a multiple powder combo, not just all highlighter; because I think you'll be able to maximize the full effect of the Ambient Lighting powder on your skin if everything is the same; the powders will work synergistically to give you that signature Ambient powder glow.
