THE VERDICT:

When I was in college, whenever I will get a serious breakout, my go- to solution is Maxi-Peel's Exfoliant Solution; when Eskinol wasn't enough, I would turn to a more potent yet affordable solution because I was on a student budget.

I had a serious breakout on the jawline due to face mask usage last January; the exfoliating toner that I was using ran out and someone sent this set just in time. I switched to a Maxi-Peel routine again after years and I'm happy to know that it's still the same ol' effective anti-acne solution that I love!

I'm reviewing the products below and I'll share with you how to PROPERLY use the Maxi-Peel exfoliant solution, plus before and after photos of my skin during my Maxi-Peel run.

Maxi-Peel is one of the most popular anti- acne skin care solutions in the Philippines. Developed by Splash Corporation, one of the leading Filipino cosmetics manufacturers in the country, Maxi-Peel started out with the best- selling Maxi-Peel Exfoliant Solution, which they eventually expanded into a skin care line. Today, Maxi-Peel features the cult favorite Exfoliant Solution range plus a facial wash, toner, moisturizing cream, and a sun protection cream. Maxi-Peel is dermatologically- tested safe and effective.

Maxi-Peel Sun Protection Cream has a light, gel- cream texture; it leaves a hint of white cast on the skin so apply sparingly and make sure to buff into the skin. It has a light floral fragrance. It doesn't feel 'warm' and pasty so it's great to use under makeup. 

Maxi-Peel Moisturizing Cream has a semi-creamy texture and feels as if it's formulated for day and night use. Dry skin types will love the consistency of this product, but for oily skin types, use sparingly because it's a bit rich and depending on how oily your skin is, it may feel a bit heavy on the face.

Maxi-Peel Facial Wash is a rich foaming wash with pearly, moisturizing swirls. What I love most about this is it has a minty feel and leaves my skin fresh and matte as it effectively removes excess sebum. I just make sure to moisturize my skin afterwards to counteract dryness.

Here's the famous Maxi-Peel Exfoliant Solution. It is made with Tretinoin and Hydroquinone. There are three types of Maxi-Peel Exfoliant Solutions:

#1: For mild acne

#2: For mild to moderate acne

#3: For severe acne

Hydroquinone has received so much bad rap over the years because of consumer reports about Hydroquinone users encountering moderate to severe skin damage. There were also a lot of negative campaigning promoted by the organic industry towards chemical skin care ingredients such as Hydroquinone.

Hydroquinone still remains as one of the gold standards for exfoliation in the world of skin care; it's just that a lot of individuals do not know how to use the product properly and a lot of brands use this ingredient without proper regulation and guidance.

Maxi-Peel's products are FDA- approved and they use the safe and recommended concentration level of Tretinoin and Hydroquinone in their products.

But of course, if you don't know how to use the Exfoliant Solution properly, you might end up having a bad experience. 

So how do you use Maxi-Peel properly? You need to use it together with a proper skin care routine:

1. Choose the right Maxi-Peel Exfoliant Solution for you. This is important. Choose between #1, #2, #3.  Don't choose #3 if you only have mild acne just because you want to get rid of the pimples right away; it doesn't work this way. Choosing a solution that is stronger than what you actually need might be counterproductive for your skin. Go through the process properly and choose the right solution for your acne problem.

2. Moisturize right after usage because Tretinoin and Hydroquinone may dry the skin as an effect; all chemical exfoliating solutions in general more or less have the same effect so moisturize right away after usage.

3. WEAR SUNSCREEN. This is the most important step. A lot of Hydroquinone users who end up with dark, patchy skin don't use sunscreen religiously and would always expose themselves to the sun. Sun exposure is inevitable that's why you should use sunscreen ALL THE TIME if you are currently using Hydroquinone.

IMPORTANT: Maxi-Peel is not ideal for prolonged usage so it is highly advisable to give your skin a healthy interval after one month of intensive use.

4 days after swiping Maxi-Peel Exfoliant Solution #1 on the pimple. Cystic Acne is very hard to get rid of and only Drunk Elephant Framboos Serum and Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion are the ones that work effectively on cystic acne for me, but they're very expensive. Glad to know that I have an affordable solution in Maxi-Peel! What's great about this is it treats the pimple and gets rid of the mark!
