THE VERDICT:
2022 has surprisingly treated us to two wonderful lipstick formulas that I believe will set the bar for the upcoming lipstick launches of 2023. I call this the modern matte lipstick: long- lasting, less drying, and performs just as good as liquid lipsticks.
It all started with Dior and Nars has followed suit with the much- awaited follow up to their popular Powermatte liquid lipstick range; introducing Powermatte lipstick, a long- lasting, transfer- resistant lipstick that can withstand face mask usage!
ingredients
Nars Powermatte lipstick is a matte lipstick that promises to be transfer- resistant and long- lasting up to 10 hours. It comes in 12 shades.
This is a slim type lipstick; the bullets come in Nars's signature rubbery packaging and come in colors that represent the shades of the lipsticks. I like the slim packaging too because it's compact and space- saving.
Dior is much more expensive than Nars because Nars is 1.2g and Dior is 3.2g. Some say that Nars's product volume is too small, but I'm personally okay with it as long as the price and product ratio is justifiable. plus I don't rarely finish a tube anyway. Also, since Powermatte is pretty pigmented and you don't have to retouch often, you can use it longer, around 1-3 months, depending on usage.
left: one swipe, right: three swipes
top to bottom: American Woman, Highway to Hell, Dragon Girl
I went to the launch and prior to that, I purchased a tube in the shade Dragon Girl.
Pigmentation is medium to heavy. It starts off creamy at first and eventually sets into a matte finish. It has a soft matte finish. The tip is rounded so if you have pointy lips, you may struggle creating precise lines with it so best to use with a lipliner. Color payoff is smooth and even; I didn't have to layer on for more than twice to get a beautiful, even finish.
TIP: let one layer dry up for 30 seconds first before applying another one
American Woman- nude pink. Pretty MLBB shade and it works on fair, medium, and warm skin tones.
Highway to Hell- bordeaux red with purple undertone. A beautiful vampy shade for the holidays!
Dragon Girl- one of my favorite shades by Nars and also Taylor Swift's signature red shade!
Staying power is really great it can withstand different types of food and beverages. I ate a buttery pancake, steak, ice cream, and coffee with it and it persisted; the only part that had fading was the center of my lips because it where the food and beverage pass through. I also love that the formula somewhat repels oil and water so its surface doesn't feel greasy and sticky after eating and drinking. I just blot my lips and it's good to go.
Nars said that the formula is transfer- resistant so if you don't blot your lips after eating (and I don't understand why you won't do that after eating!), it may erode the lipstick. I've worn these lippies without ever retouching them and the best way to keep the coverage intact is to just blot instead of wiping your lips.
Best part is no dryness at all; my super sensitive lips are okay with the formula!
One of my favorite lipstick finds this year because it's just as good as Dior, but more affordable. Love the shade selection too! Looking forward to getting another tube!
