THE VERDICT:
At long last. Chanel decided that it's the modern times and such times call for a modern foundation shade range. I really wanted to try Chanel's face bases before because I've been hearing wonders, but the shade range was such a letdown. Finally, they decided to be more inclusive and this allowed me to finally try one of their newest foundations, Chanel Ultra Le Teint. Prior to buying it, I did not read any reviews; it's technically a blind buy and I was pleasantly surprised by its quality, feel, and performance (Whew! Glad it worked for me. Otherwise, it would have been a very expensive disappointment).
It's one of those luxury foundations that are worth the bucks and it's currently my favorite. I'll tell you why this is worth the splurge and why you should consider getting this if you have dry skin, but want to wear full coverage, long- lasting foundation.
Ingredients
Chanel Ultra Le Teint Foundation is a velvety- matte, long- wearing foundation that promises up to 24- hr. comfortable wear. Infused with hydrating ingredients. It comes in a spectrum of 30 shades.
Texture is light gel cream and it's very easy to spread and blend. The shade names can be quite confusing and hard to remember, but the way I interpret it, B has neutral undertone, BR has rose undertone, and BD has golden undertone because I figured D stands for Dore, which means 'gold' in French.
BD31 is actually a shade lighter than my skin tone, but the foundation oxidizes and it oxidizes hard. While trying it on the counter, I swatched the product and after just a couple of seconds, the foundation started to turn dark. If you have more acidic skin, go for two to three shades lighter and given the oxidization issue with this product, it's best swatched in person so you can test and find the right shade for you.
Bare skin
Two layers of the foundation with corrector underneath
The foundation has a nice, velvety feel; it feels nice on the skin and it's not streaky since texture is smooth. Very lovely to apply and in fact, you can apply and blend it properly even with your fingers. It sets efficiently into a soft matte finish and it feels light on the skin. It's buildable, but I would categorize it as a medium foundation because I can still see some texture peeping through the coverage. Like another French foundation, Dior, full coverage for French brands usually means medium, at least in my opinion.
This is one of the most natural- looking yet pigmented foundations out there. I like the soft, natural matte finish it gives; it's like my skin is just lightly- powdered, but it stays like that the whole day because this foundation has decent staying power; 3 hours, tops before my t- zone begins to oil up.
The formula of this foundation is great: it's matte, but hydrating and doesn't look dewy; it's the ideal matte finish if you're going to ask me, especially if you're at my age where your skin is starting to feel a bit drier than usual. It doesn't look and feel cakey and feels lightweight.
It's one of those foundations that just make you say: It's really good! The formula is comparable to Dior's Clean Matte Foundation, but I seem to like this better because it looks more natural, but has the same pigment power and coverage, plus shade range is better for me overall. A bit cheaper than Dior too.
Chanel Ultra Le Teint is ideal for normal and combination oily/dry skin types, and even for dry skin that needs some coverage. I'd gladly repurchase this one again!
