THE VERDICT:

Do you have a fragrance that you'd call "love at first sniff" ? Mine are Eclat D' Arpege EDP by Lanvin and Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. Recently, it is this: Twilly D' Hermes EDP. A favorite of Tiktok girlies and one of Hermes' most popular perfumes for women.

The last Hermes perfume that I liked was Kelly Caleche. I've heard about Twilly D' Hermes, but wasn't really keen to try or smell it.

But one random night, I felt like going perfume shopping at fragrancex.com, which is being raved in a perfume enthusiast group that I'm part of. Since Twilly D' Hermes was cheap on the website, so I decided to buy it (fyi, 50ml is around 7K in Rustans).

Twilly D' Hermes is actually a blind buy and boy, was it one of the best blind buys I've ever made! It's love at first sniff and one of my new favorite complex floral fragrances!

Twilly D' Hermes EDP is described as a floral, spicy, oriental fragrance for women. The talented nose behind this fragrance is Christine Nagel, who currently serves as the head perfumer at the house of Hermes. Top notes have Ginger, Bitter Orange, and Bergamot. Middle notes have Tuberose, Orange Blossom, and Jasmine. Base notes have Sandalwood and Vanilla.

Upon spraying, you are greeted with a strong burst of Ginger; I can see why a lot wouldn't consider this fragrance a safe blind buy because the Ginger note is pretty strong. Depending on the person, it can be annoyingly sharp or pleasantly zesty. Bottomline, I think you have to love Ginger, which I luckily do (not the herb though).

The Ginger burst calms down after a few seconds; I think it was just needed to project the rest of the fresh notes right to the top and prepare the wearer for a semi- sharp turn at the heart; the heart unveils a bouquet of white florals, which immediately tones down and gives the fragrance a very feminine and mature touch. The base is comforting and earthy with Sandalwood as the dominant note, which gives the fragrance an oriental touch too.

As vibrant and multifaceted as the prints on the iconic Twilly, Twilly D' Hermes is a complex floral yet endearing in its own way: it's bright, it's warm, it's opulent, it's light, and despite all that mess of aromas, the signature Ginger note just ties everything together and gives the fragrance a sense of direction; it's like in a sea of fragrant flowers, your eyes and nose catch that lone most fragrant and beautiful flower, you pick it up, and cherish it.

In a way, I also see Twilly D' Hermes as the interpretation of the modern Hermes woman in a bottle: full of joie de vivre and radiates with sophistication and depth. The modern Hermes woman is gracefully stylish and young yet wise beyond her years, as interpreted by Twilly D' Hermes.

As for the staying power, it stays on the whole day; it's one of those perfumes that have great staying power. It's a great night time fragrance but can be used during the day in cooler months. If you're also not a fan of oriental fragrance, but love it for its depth like me, this is a great choice.

I'm so glad I purchased this fragrance one boring night. If not, I wouldn't have found a new complex, sophisticated floral perfume for night time that I love!

Have you tried Twilly D' Hermes. What do you think?
