Here is an initial review on MAC BLOT POWDER IN MEDIUM DARK

PRICE: 1200PHP
PLACE BOUGHT: MAC GLORIETTA
OTHER LOCATIONS: RUSTAN'S SHANGRI-LA MALL; POWERPLANT MALL; MARIONNAUD, SM MALL OF ASIA

SITE DESCRIPTION (taken from maccosmetics.com):
A unique pressed powder designed primarily to provide shine control without adding any noticeable colour or texture. Sets foundation, finishes faces. For use in professional situations and for frequent touch-ups. Blot Powder contains Mica and Silica to adsorb excess oils and reduce shine on the skin's surface. Can be applied with the puff that comes in the compact or with a powder brush like #129 Powder/Blush Brush. Perfect for touching up Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation throughout the day.

THE VERDICT:

I just can't stand anymore how my Studio Fix in NC40 completely turns my MUFE HD Foundie a shade lighter than my usual skin tone. I know, I shouldn't be using this one but this is the only powder I have. So instead of hauling lipsticks, I just realized that a pressed powder is what I needed the most as of the moment.

I actually have in mind an MSF because it just gives a natural finish. When I arrived MAC Glorietta, I went to the MSF counter right away, asked for my shade, and got one in Medium Dark. Good thing I asked prior to purchasing because the MSF doesn't keep oil at bay. So I halted the lady from swiping my card because I know for a fact that my face is a total oil mine, so an MSF is something that I don't need.

I asked her if she has the Darkest shade in the Blot Powder. Unfortunately, it was out of stock, so I tried my luck with Medium dark, which is the second darkest shade.

Here is my latest item, a pressed powder, called the Blot Powder. The case is quite small and very compact, more compact than the Studio Fix's fat case.

The powder puff is a turn- off because it's quite cheap- looking. Maybe MAC could take a hint from Stila in terms of designing their powder puffs. IMO, the powder puffs of the pressed powders by Stila look really classy and expensive. :)

Closer look at the product

The SA told me that the Medium Dark of the MSF is the same as the Medium Dark of the Blot Powder. I'm kinda' having doubts because I can see that the MSF in Medium Dark is more on the brown side, and this one is more on the white side.

Here's the shade in Medium Dark. I could pretty much say that I risked the purchase. I swiped the product thrice on my skin. I was quite worried because I was thinking that this is another darn NC40- ish color, which is a shade lighter because I'm an NC42. But since the SA told me that this just disappears into a translucent finish because it's made to absorb oil and not provide any coverage at all, I decided to give it a try.

It's quite starchy, which is a quality of Translucent powders. Creamy powders are the give a colored coverage. All I could hope for is for this to really disappear into a translucent finish. I just hope that it does a good job in setting my foundation and absorbing my facial oil.

Lo and behold, when I blended the powder on my skin, it just disappeared into nothingness! :p

I give this a hundred points because my facial skin tone is almost the same as the skin tone on my neck. The SA was right! I am so glad I got this one. It's the cheapest powder in the line, yet it impressed me.

I'm very happy to know that indeed, I had a good purchase. At last, my doubts can now be laid to rest. :)

It didn't change the shade of my MUFE HD Foundation in 160, as opposed to MAC's Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. And it did control my oilies for 4 hours. Usually, my Studio Fix would run off of my face after an hour because that's how oily my face is. But I'm glad I got this instead of the MSF because I really hate retouching. :p

*I'm willing to repurchase this one. Next time, I'd like to try the shade in Dark, which is the darkest shade MAC sells locally.

THE BEAUTY JUNKEE'S TIP: IT'S BETTER TO APPLY THIS PRODUCT WITH A BRUSH RATHER THAN WITH A PUFF BECAUSE THE TRANSLUCENT FINISH BECOMES MORE EVIDENT. A BRUSH GREATLY BLENDS AND EVENLY DISTRIBUTES POWDER.
