Here's an initial review on Nature Republic Eye Lover Eyebrow Cake

THE VERDICT:

One should pay attention to his/her beauty arches, because these arches can completely affect one's overall look. It can make you look young or old, groomed or ungroomed, even with or without makeup.

If you prefer soft- looking brows, you should opt for brow powders. It is not to be confused with Eyebrow Cakes, which come in gel form most of the time. Eyebrow powders are just like regular eyeshadows, but they're specifically made to shape and emphasize one's brows.

Here's a neat find from Nature Republic. There are two shades for NR's eyebrow powders. But the bummer is, they have serial codes instead of names or numbers. If you like this particular shade, take note of the serial code inside the red circle and look for it in their eyebrow counter.

The brow powder comes in a sleek, sturdy, and lightweight case with a mirror embedded in it.

Left: Soft brown (used for filling the brows; can be used for soft contouring) Right: Ash Brown (used for shaping and enhancing the brows' color)

Conveniently comes with mini brow tools, the spoolie and eyebrow shaping brush.

Here's a swatch pic. The top swatch is the Soft Brown shade, and the one at the bottom is the Ash Brown Shade.

The consistency of the powder is a bit chalky, and has minimal fall out.The powder is quite spreadable, and yields light coverage. You can layer it as you please. It's also noob friendly, because the pigmentation prevents over application.

The powder lasts all day. No need to re- apply. I also find the Soft Brown color handy in enhancing my brows' width sans the artificial look. I use the same shade too to darken the part near my nose's bridge.

So how do you use a brow powder? Here's a step-by-step tutorial.

First, you have to groom your brows.

STEP 1: Get rid of those protruding hairs that make your brows look messy and ungroomed. How do you know what to trim? Simple. Run a brush comb upwards and halfway through your brows. When you see protruding hairs (such as the ones pictured above), trim them with a brow scissor. Take note that you should only do it once because over trimming might result to thinner- looking brows. As for me, I rarely trim these ends because I find them helpful in making my brows look more lush and darker.

STEP 2: After trimming those ends, time to underline your brows' shape. First, you should find out what brow shape suits your face best. Round- faced girls like me fare well with square brows with a pointed upper tip. This brow shape beautifully frames full faces. Underline the upper end with the darker shade.

STEP 3: Pluck/Shave/Thread/Wax the hairs outside the line.

STEP 4: Repeat the process in Step 2.

STEP 5: Repeat the process in Step 3.

STEP 6: Color your brows with the darker shade. Dabbing the powder on your brows is suggested because it yields a more natural look.

When you have reached your desired color, use some of the lighter shade to fill in spaces with sparse hair.

STEP 7: Distribute the powder evenly with a spoolie. Brush outwards starting from the area near the nose's bridge until the pointed lower tip.

End Result. Do you see the beautiful difference if you have well- groomed brows?

TIP: Sport thick brows for a more youthful appearance!

Overall, I love it. It's cheap, and it delivers. I only need a little of the product to cover both brows, so I guess I won't be going back anytime soon to Nature Republic to replenish my stocks. I'm also interested to try those eyebrow cakes, particularly the ones by Benefit. I'll also post a tutorial on how to shape/groom your brows with an Eyebrow Pencil.

  6. I do not get it why they put serial codes instead of names! Same with my The Face Shop polishes, instead of just BROWN, they have this BR801 or something! it's so difficult to memorize! LOL

Going to consider those tips next time I groom my brows :) sometimes kasi nagiiba iba ang itsura ng eyebrows ko, siguro kapag naa mood ako maganda kinakalabasan pero kapag wala sa mood di pantay at panget. Pareho pala tayong gusto thick ang browse :) High-five Ms. Martha! The product looks so interesting too.
