THE VERDICT:

I swear, if Free Radicals were money, we are all millionaires by now. Yes, that's how much Free Radicals we have in our body, and it's a bad, bad thing. It would've been great if they were bills, but nah, they're pretty useless and much worse, deadly.

In a nutshell, Free Radicals are body toxins that disrupt our systems' proper functions. To put it more scientifically, they are negatively- charged cells that roam around the body, attach themselves to paired cells, and cause cell death. Overtime, Free Radicals can cause the death of the host. Aging signs such as wrinkles, spots, dryness, dullness, and loss of skin elasticity may mean that the Free Radicals are already taking its toll on your body. Remember, your skin is your health's mirror.
So make sure you complete your recommended daily dose of antioxidants to safeguard your health from these Free Radicals.

While it's best to take care of our health from within, we should also bear in mind that we must give equal importance to our skin because it's our first barrier against Free Radicals and other skin aggressors. Suffice to say, our skin takes the first beating before our internal system does.

So what's the best vitamin to take to ward off Free Radicals? Vitamin C. It has been highly- regarded as the world's best antioxidant, and the number one enemy of Free Radicals. No wonder why mom keeps on telling you to pop a Vitamin C capsule per day. You can get your daily dose of Vitamin C from a multitude of fruits, veggies, and supplements. Use skin care products infused with it to help strengthen your skin, and weaken Free Radicals before they get into your body. Studies have shown that a high dosage of Vitamin C, when applied topically, can create positive effects on the skin. But of course, you can't just apply it right away. It needs to be formulated at certain levels for it to be safe and compatible with our skin.

And so the brilliant minds at Kiehl's have found a way to stabilize this vitamin, and came up with a potent serum with a high concentration of 10.5% Pure Vitamin C, (L-Ascorbic Acid) and called it the Powerful Strength Line- Reducing Concentrate. Why so? Because apart from being a powerful antioxidant, Vitamin C has also been known for reducing signs of skin aging. It is part of their special skin care line, Dermatologist Solutions.

This serum only comes in a 50ml size, and is housed in a tinted bottle with a resealable pump. I like the fact that the bottle is tinted because it inhibits direct light exposure, thereby preserving the product longer.

The Powerful Strength Line- Reducing concentrate is an almost fragrance- free, semi- thick, yet spreadable lotion with a silicone- y texture. You can use it on its own or underneath moisturizer or serums. However, I find that it turns blotchy when it comes into contact with watery creams. It works best with oil and gel- based products and thicker creams.

It warms up upon skin contact because the Vitamin C gets activated as you blend the product onto your skin. Vitamin C is still acid, so it is inevitable that you'll experience a stinging sensation during usage. But don't worry, it is completely tolerable, and the warm and stinging sensation goes away after a few seconds. The product lasts for a good 3- 4 months, depending on usage. I only use this during night time because I think that it will clog my pores during daytime since its consistency is pretty thick.

I have used it religiously for three months, and I am so pleased with the results. Here are pics to prove its efficacy:

EYE AREA

The product is not intended for usage around the eye area. Being the hard- headed and experimental girl that I am, I've used it anyway on my undereyes because I wanted to get rid of the fine lines in there. I have used it every night for three months together and underneath my Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Tone Perfecting Eye Gel Creme and the result is fabulous. The Kiehl's serum has helped diminish the fine lines around my eye area and made it look brighter.

SKIN

Honestly, I don't have a lot of facial lines to know if its line- reducing promise has taken effect so I really can't say a lot about that, except for what it did to the fine lines on my undereyes. But I still find it amazing because it has made my skin look brighter and healthier! This picture was taken a few minutes after waking up- No photoshop and no tinge of makeup here (except for a swipe of glossy lipbalm because my lips are behaving badly due to the cold weather) Isn't it great to see a healthy- looking skin in the mirror after each and every waking moment? The serum has improved my skin's texture, tone, and feel. The results don't lie- it is indeed a powerful product!

Make sure to apply it on thoroughly cleansed skin for maximum absorption. Use it religiously for better results.

Other Concerns:

1.) Vitamin C has high rancidity. (Good thing I was awake when we discussed this in high school Science class!) The instructions tell you to use the product 12 months right after opening, so please follow suit. Discard the product immediately if it shows signs of discoloration, and if it starts smelling funky.

2.) Perhaps some of you are concerned about the side effects of excessive Vitamin C intake. It is true, but only for orally- taken Vitamin C. But since breakthrough scientific studies have shown that allergies can be triggered through the skin, consult your doctor first before using this product, especially if you have a known sensitivity to high dosages of Vitamin C.

Good job Kiehl's! You have won my heart once again with this breakthrough product. I will buy one again after I use up my other serums. :)

I recommend this to people who want to eradicate their marionette lines around the mouth, laugh lines, and fine lines on the undereye area. I also recommend this to people with uneven skintone and dull complexion.

  1. i love love love that part, "other concerns". a lot of people totally disregard the expiration date of beauty products and allergy test, let alone consult a doctor prior to first use
