THE VERDICT:

I love Anna Sui because of the dark flower garden feels of the brand's aesthetic; pretty flowers against a stark black background; it's like saying "I'm a pretty princess on the outside, but I can be a witch if you want me to." I think this brand is speaking about me LOL!

Kidding aside, let me talk about one of my recent purchases from Anna Sui; after hauling Charlotte Tilbury makeup, I still had some budget for another luxury makeup brand and Anna Sui came first in mind. I was torn between a foundation and blush, but blindly went for the foundation hoping that it would be good. And it's surprisingly very good!

Anna Sui Liquid Foundation is that sweet spot between your heavy matte foundation and medium coverage matte foundation; it's a great daily matte foundation and it lasts the whole day too!

Ingredients

Anna Sui Liquid Foundation is described in the official website as:

Beautiful skin is easy with our best selling Liquid Foundation. The silky smooth formula leaves skin moisturized all day, protects from harmful UV rays and leaves skin with a soft, poreless finish. SPF 20.

Anna Sui also has one of the prettiest makeup packaging in my opinion and this is what has drawn me to the foundation: beautiful frosted- glass, heart- shaped bottle, and Victorian details.

Oh, did I mention that the bottle is compact? It doesn't eat up so much space despite the design.

My shade is 202; in the website, the darkest is 203, but Anna Sui in HK only had 202 as the darkest shade. This is one downside of the brand: the shade range is way too limited considering its a luxury brand and we now live in the age of inclusivity and better makeup options. Anna Sui needs to up their game in the shade range department.

202 is a medium beige with a yellow undertone. It's sort of NC40-ish on me, but the foundation oxidizes for a little and it has somewhat adjusted to my skin tone--still a little light, but very, very tolerable. Consistency is a rich liquid with a rose scent; the fragrance is another reason why I love this foundation!

Bare skin

BAM! Close up!

As you can see, the foundation has evened out my skin tone quite nicely; I didn't use any concealer and corrector in the photo; just the foundation.

The foundation sets into a semi- matte finish; it feels very nice on the skin. Feels light and I like how it melts on the skin, thereby looking more natural; not a lot of matte foundations can do that.

TBJ TIP: This foundation is best applied with a foundation brush and oddly enough, YOUR FINGERS! So if you love using your fingers when applying foundation, you'll love this product. I don't recommend using a makeup sponge because it thins out the coverage and you end up not getting its full benefits.

I set this product with Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Finish Powder; the combination is AMAZING, but it's very expensive. Hey, if you can afford it, by all means, buy both because I highly recommend them! An affordable setting powder option would be any translucent setting powder or set with Coty Airspun to amp up the coverage and for budge- proof makeup.

Staying power is great: it stays put and even if oil would show up on my t-zone after about 4 or 5 hours, the makeup still looks great overall at the end of the day.

How would I sum up this foundation? It's like Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Foundation meets Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Liquid Foundation; finish is Fenty Beauty and feels and looks like MUFE. Compared to drugstore foundation, it's like L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Foundation, but this one doesn't end up looking grainy at day's end and looks significantly smoother.

Anna Sui Liquid Foundation deserves your attention, as I said in the title. It's a matte foundation that's great for daily wear and best for combination oily-normal skin types. Will most likely repurchase, but better shade options, please!

  6. It seems the cost is like the full coverage founda (nars, katvond) but then its like sheer..its nice for malling or even going to the office...but what i like is the heart shape packaging...i thought it was a shimmery eyeliner like Etude has.. 😀
