THE VERDICT:
It's been raining hard again. :( I hope you're all safe guys.
Anyway, what a great way to lighten up this gloomy day but by grabbing some chocolates, right? Well, I'm not talking about the fattening one. I'm talking about this: Mint and Vanilla palette. Sounds scrumptious eh? This is part of Chocolat Donna, Shu Uemura's latest collection for Fall. It also comes in 2 other mouthwatering sets: Orange and Pistachio and Raspberry and Mocha.
Compact is very sturdy, slim, and lightweight.
This, as well as the other Chocolat Donna palettes, reminds me of a box of chocolates, and the eyeshadows remind me of pralines. Those eyeshadows are very gorgeous because they look so intricate and unique. It's nice to know that this collection actually has a theme, unlike other 'blah' limited edition collections that are only repackaged versions of permanent products.
The great thing about this palette is it's reusable. You don't have to throw it away once you use up all the eyeshadows. This is also true for regular Shu Uemura palettes. It would cost you a little more moolah in one spending but if you're gonna think about it, you'll actually save a lot in the long run by just buying the refills and you get to save Mother Earth too!
I hear these comments coming: "Yikes! The eyeshadows are so small!" Indeed, they are. But they're so pigmented, they will last you for a long time. If I'm not mistaken, the single refills cost P600.00+ a pop. It's quite affordable considering that it's by a very good brand. Besides, do you really need a gigantic pan of eyeshadow?
SWATCHES (L-R):
Gold (Shimmer)- glitter gold eyeshadow. Works best when used on top of a more pigmented eyeshadow, or cream eyeshadow
Mint (Shimmer)- mint glitter eyeshadow. It's such a lovely shade, and I wish it were more pigmented. Just like gold shimmer, it works best on top of cream or more pigmented eyeshadows. I like using this on top of my Laura Mercier Sheer Creme Eye Color in Aqua Pastel for glittering vintage eyes!
Pale Yellow (Matte)- it appears cream in the swatch, but it's a lovely chiffon yellow color. Works great as a base or lidwash
Bronze (Frost)- has a fairly pigmented finish. The gold swirls on top of it add some dimension to the base shade, giving it a semi-metallic finish. I use this as a lid wash too, or on my above creases to accentuate darker eyeshadows.
Chocolate Brown (Matte)- a great daytime brown. It gives eyes some natural depth, and it's great for emphasizing deep creases. Apart from eye use, this shade can also be used for nose contouring.
Dark Chocolate (Matte)- great for smoky eye makeup looks for daytime; gives natural- looking depth to girls with chinky or hooded eyes
Here's a look I came up with.
The eyeshadows have excellent pigmentation, and they blend easily. It holds up pretty well, especially if used with a good eye primer. Overall, I think it's a pretty good investment because the shades are practical and very useable. Not only that, you get to keep the cute palette too!
