Time for some fashion tips today! It's been a while since I answered a fashion- related FMF query so I'm excited with this one. Question is form Beverly:
Hi Martha!
Are there ways to wear maxi dress or rompers for vertically challenged girls like me?

Hello Beverly!
They said that short girls should stick to short dresses, but I just think that these people don't know a thing or two about fashion strategies! I believe everyone can wear a maxi or romper regardless of their height and shape-it just takes the right color, cut, and style! Tips after the jump! :)

WEDGE IT!
Wedges look good with maxis and rompers. When your maxi or romper is grazing the floor, you have the tendency to look even shorter and besides, you might trip and fall! Choose a comfy wedge to go along with your preferred clothing. You can opt for high heels too!

LEAN, LONG LINES
If you're into nautical prints or anything with lines, opt for something with vertical lines to give the illusion of a taller physique.

SLIM AND SOLID
Works best for maxi dresses. A slim belt gives the illusion of a longer torso. Similarly, maxi dresses and rompers in solid colors are always the safest bet.

TIPS ON PRINTS AND TEXTURES
If you want to be more adventurous, choose printed maxis and rompers, but here's the thing: Such clothes with gigantic prints can make you look even smaller so always go for the ones with tiny or small prints. And just choose one between the two: prints or texture. By texture, I mean clothes with drapes, pleats, ruffles, fringes…you get the drift. If you combine heavy prints with texture, there will be too much that's going on in your outfit and it could make you look lousy or over-the-top, and too much texture can also make you look bulky and again, make you look smaller than what you actually are. I always advise my petite friends to choose maxi dresses with a painting- like print (like the one on top)-it gives more depth to the outfit, thus making them look taller.
That's all and hope you've learned something new today! :)

OMG, This will definitely be helpful for me ;; u ;; I'm a really small girl, see? and I've been wantint to try wearing a max dress or a long skirt at the very least but I'm really afraid of looking like a kid wearing her mom's clothes. I'll follow your tips and hopefully, I can enjoy wearing long dresses without feeling anxious about it. Thanks so much, Ms.! <3
ReplyDeleteSuper handy tips for short girls, Ms. Martha! :)
ReplyDeleteMaxis are quite versatile. I agree it's the way you choose your ideal 'illusion' as with most other articles of clothing.

OMG I love this post... :) I really want to wear maxis kasi... kaso I'm petite..
ReplyDeleteI have just one maxi dress that I feel safe wearing. Having the same dilemma, I don't get to wear maxis as often. Reading this blog will get rid of those piles of dresses and flowy pants in my closet that are not yet worn. Thanks a lot Martha!
ReplyDeleteThank you for answering my question! Love the first four dresses in the picture!
ReplyDeleteBev, I suggest you wear pumps or wedges in nude or beige. This gives the illusion of having an extended-like legs. In addition, pick a pair of chandelier earrings or drop earrings instead of studs.
ReplyDeletei love wearing maxi dresses... their super comfy and airy... i do have that bit of a problem too because i have short legs, it's not quite proportional to my torso, methinks... i love wearing belts on my waist to make my legs seem longer... i love the white printed dress btw... :D
ReplyDeleteI agree Ms.Martha, you just have to find the perfect one. I love the last picture. I have maxi dress with lots of prints on it and I'm (5'4") and I wear high heels whenever I wear that particular dress of mine, but still It doesn't look nice because of the print of the dress.
ReplyDeleteThis post is definitely helpful, I haven't even tried maxis because they are super long and I look like I'm wearing a long gown. Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteHi girls! Glad you liked this post!
ReplyDeleteMarielle: Thanks for the additional tips! :)
Awesome! I never wore long skirts in general as it makes me look shorter... thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteIs it weird when I always think that thin tall girls can't wear maxi dresses because they will look thinner? :( huhu. Okay, this is so odd.
ReplyDeletethis post is very helpful sa mga kagaya ko Ms.M :) i so love wearing maxi dresses kasi.thank you for answering the fan mail fridays!
ReplyDeleteIm not a super small gal. I think I stand 5'2-5'3 tall. But I guess Im a little bulky because my dress are medium to large range. Wedges are perfect because it offers height and comfort. I would definitely try the painting like prints like the one you suggested.
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think of this post! :)
