THE VERDICT:
Sebum is both a blessing and a curse: It's a blessing because it stalls wrinkles for a few more years and a curse at the same time because it just wrecks your makeup, most especially if you're the type who gets oily very easily, like a few minutes after washing your face.
Speaking of severe oiliness, how do you deal with this most especially when it gets in the way of your makeup routine? First, blot your skin with an oil- blotting paper and make sure that it's virtually grease- free before applying any kind of makeup-no amount of waterproof primer can make your makeup last if your skin is oily to begin with. Second, hydrate with a light, oil- free moisturizer-allow your skin to drink up the moisturizer to minimize oil production.
Or, you can just apply a layer of Etude House Zero Sebum All Day Matte Gel. It's a multipurpose gel that blots sebum away and acts like a moisturizer for fuss- free makeup application.
ETUDE HOUSE ZERO SEBUM ALL DAY MATTE GEL IN DETAIL
Etude House Zero Sebum All Day Matte Gel is a silicone, fragrance, and pigment- free face gel that contains Natural Grain Powder to help get rid of oil, thus keeping your skin fresh and matte. It also features a bevy of skin caring- ingredients.
Ingredients
More details on this product after the jump.
Product comes in one size only, 60ml and in an easy-to-squeeze tube.
It's a soft gel, but it's a unique one because it's not as runny as most gels and it has a silicone- like feel to it due to Natural Grain Powder (again, it's silicone- free). It spreads out easily, feels very light and refreshing, although it smells like alcohol and might put off some in the beginning.
ETUDE HOUSE ZERO SEBUM ALL DAY MATTE GEL IN ACTION
One layer of Etude House Zero Sebum All Day Matte Gel
Okay, so this is a multipurpose product, but in what way/s? This product acts like a moisturizer, much like Olay Aquaction, but with a thicker consistency. Can I say that it's a primer? Not really because I find that it doesn't really keep me oil- free the entire day, not even for just a few hours. Instead, I'd say that it's...let me invent a term here...a Pre- Makeup Blotting Gel, something that gets rid of excess oil to make your primer and makeup stick properly onto your skin (and it works!) so for me, it's a moisturizer-cum-blotting gel.
Zero Sebum All Day Matte Gel will work best as a prepping/blotting product before makeup on those with severely oily skin-it's not as wasteful as using blotting paper and not as time- consuming as using moisturizer. It can also work as a plain moisturizer, but only for those with oily or combination oily/normal skin types. It's a specialized product and I don't think it's a must- have, unless your skin's very, very oily. That said, I wish it came in a smaller size that's easier to consume.

Finally! A full review of this product!
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting for this review ever since the gel online, i don't want to buy another product that i won't finish... Sayang lang.
That said, i was a bit disappointed when you said it didn't keep your oilies at bay. I was hoping that it would keep you oil free for at least a few hours... Plus it's silicone free pa so sayang talaga it didn't work out for you.
I wish they have a smaller size too so I could at least try this one. Again, i dont want to spend that much for something na i won't be able to finish... But thanks for the review! :)

Never tried a sebum product before. Don't have idea what it is for. Thanks for informing me. Hihi. But maybe I prefer mosturizers na lang:) i fon't use primer also, i don't mind using oil blotting sheets kasi when my face became oily na:) i love some of etude products, anyway does it break you out while using it?
ReplyDeleteI was actually intrigued with this new line from EH. But haven't found a good review yet. At last! Thanks a lot po Ms. Martha for always providing the best reference po. (^....^)
ReplyDeletedoes it dry easily?
ReplyDeleteBeen searching for a review on this product! I was intrigued because of it's silicone-free formula. Silicone primers break me out. Thanks for reviewing! You saved my wallet. Hahaha
ReplyDeleteYou're right Ms. M, it doesn't keep me oil-free for the whole day also. I've used it last month and I thought it would work really well but it didn't work on me. Maybe it needs to be paired up with other Zero Sebum product.
ReplyDeleteif this is silicon type then it is same with my previous face primer from MK =) but this one is much more affordable =) and quantity wise -- awesome!
ReplyDeleteit would really be nice to have that especially if you have oily skin it could help you throughout the day :)

Its really a problem if you have oily skin.. tsktsk! Thanks ms. M for informing us about the sebum power yun lang the product doesnt live up to its promises to keep you matte and fresh..
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to give this a try. If it's not going to completely eliminate the oiliness, at least it may be a better thing for me to have it even if it's going to alleviate the problem for a little while.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of putting sebums even before makeup though I want to for the sake of good skin because of the same problem :/ My skin tends to get too oily easily and it's a no-no :( So it's matte gel? Awesome!! A must-have for those who have oily skin like me! Wanna give this a try!! :D
ReplyDeleteNot the product for me. :-/ My face is okay naman during pre makeup but becomes oily minutes after going out of the house. I'm using a compatible moisturizer, the moistfull collagen, and I think that's enough for me right now. The price is reasonable Sana if it worked as a blotting product. :-) improve the formula and I'll try it! :-)

ReplyDeleteAbegaill: Ditto! :D Wish it had better oil- controlling properties. :p
Ana: I see you have very oily skin. I'm sure you'll find this handy! :)
CJ: You're welcome. :)
Lovely: I'm fine with my current moisturizer and excessive oiliness is not a problem for me so I'll pass up on this one. :)
Almaira: it does. :)
Pam: You're welcome. :)
Kkumkugo: Or a primer. :)
Vin: You're welcome. :)
