 THE VERDICT:

You know what's magic? It's wearing foundation that's virtually not there, but can cover real well; let me call this kind of magic Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation, which remains as one of my most favorite BB foundation formulas evaarrr. Skin foundie and I met in 2009, and it still captures my heart just like the very first moment we met.

This 2016, Skin Foundation has stepped up its game: it's now loaded with skin benefits and comes in the latest packaging craze to hit the world of makeup, cushion compacts. Skin Foundation Cushion Compact is the lightest foundation I have ever tried that doesn't compromise coverage, and it comes in a really handy, spill- proof, travel- friendly packaging too!

BOBBI BROWN SKIN FOUNDATION CUSHION COMPACT IN MEDIUM TO DARK IN DETAIL

This new foundation by Bobbi Brown comes in cushion packaging to ensure freshness and longevity; formula is enriched with Pink Silk extract and Caffeine to wake up skin, and has SPF 50 PA+++ for maximum sun protection. It comes in 6 shades.

So what's the big deal with cushion compacts, anyway? Why are brands subscribing to the trend? It actually started with Korean beauty brands and eventually, brands and consumers realized how economical this thing is for a lot of reasons and started catching up: aside from keeping the product fresh, it's a revolutionary way to travel with your liquid bases (travelers are probably rejoicing right now), is very environmental- friendly (it's refillable!), and fuss- free.

Bobbi's Skin Foundation Cushion Compact refills are like coffee cartridges; give the base a slightly strong push for the cartridge to pop out.

The sponge is smooth, soft, and bouncy; the way it works, it absorbs whatever product you take and delivers the right amount every time you pat it on your skin.

What sets this apart from similar products is the cushion is not saturated with the product when it's new, thus assuring you that you get an even fresher product. Just like the sponge, the cushion also gives you the right amount of foundation you need; the game of cushion compacts is all about giving off what's right and needed at any moment.

There are only six shades in this range; seems too few considering that counterpart brands offer 8 to even 11 shades, but the magic here is all the shades have yellow undertones, therefore despite the small selection, a certain shade can match a variety of skin tones; FYI, yellow is a universal undertone!

Btw, this product is Asia-exclusive only.

BOBBI BROWN SKIN FOUNDATION CUSHION COMPACT IN MEDIUM TO DARK IN ACTION

Left: skin with Shiseido Glow Enhancing Primer; Right: Two layers of Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Cushion Compact

Medium Dark is a shade darker on me (I should have gone for Medium); my tan's gotten dull and I gotta make it golden again! I digress. Even if Medium to Dark is a bit dark on me, the SPF 50 PA+++ content kind of counteracts that for me, but take note that it doesn't yield a white cast. Still and all, I use a shade- matching powder to adjust the shade to my skin tone.

Coverage is light to medium and coverage is pretty amazing despite the lightweight consistency; it's BB/CC Cream in terms of feel with the coverage of a liquid foundation. It feels and covers just as greatly as Skin Foundation, but I find that this sits much better on the skin and sets quickly to boot (Skin foundie, don't worry, I still love you!). Coverage is dewy, but it doesn't feel slick; it has pretty good moisturizing properties, but it doesn't make skin feel greasy. This foundation is great at concealing redness, dull skin, and even mild to moderate discolorations; check out the spot on my forehead in both photos; it was minimized in the right photo and I only used this foundation to cover that up! However, if you have grave discolorations, this is not the foundation for you.

Staying power is pretty great; it doesn't run off or fade considerably, but still needs to be retouched during the day to keep it looking fresh. I also noticed that with this foundation, my skin tends to look 'energized' until the end of the day; Caffeine and Pink Silk extracts must be at work!

Skin Foundation Cushion Compact is a tropical foundation for foundation to non- foundation wearers because it's lightweight AF, but still gives you the coverage you deserve; it's great for almost any skin type, especially dry skin because cushion compact bases tend to be more moisturizing. I see this product as a travel- friendly alternative to my all- time favorite Skin Foundation!

  1. I have not found my perfect cushion for me but this bobbi brown is pricey I would not be able to try it. But even mac cosmetics has cushion foundation too. I hope some affordable ones would release there own cushion products for now I'm loving the faceshop oil control water cushion.

  3. Is it ok to retouch using the same cushion compact since it is still liquid?

    1. If you're referring to using it to retouch an existing layer of makeup, I would not recommend since it's liquid.

  6. That's a pretty good review right there. Another bobbie product. Ohhh. It really is becoming a thing I have one from the face shop and it also gives good coverage but I must say that it looks flawless on you on the picture above especially after you've done your whole makeup. I think this product is worth the try. And the fact that it is compact makes it a winner!!! Bottles are too bulky so this is a win win situation! :)

  14. I use Honey in the regular liquid skin foundation...Do you think Med-Dark or Dark would match?

    1. If I remember it correctly, Honey is a bit dark so I believe this shade will suit you.
