How To Maintain A Healthy Liver

Did you know that Liver disease is considered as the 'silent epidemic' in the Philippines, specifically liver cancer? Liver Cancer is the second leading type of killer cancer in the Philippines. Unfortunately, more and more Filipinos are becoming at risk of liver diseases as well as those who are currently suffering from it.

The liver is actually a powerful part of the body; it filters toxins, waste, and certain ingredients that your body cannot otherwise utilize; it can actually regenerate on its own. However, it is also finite; when not taken care of properly, it loses its function and breaks down, which can be detrimental to overall health; without the liver, your body won't be able to process wastes, toxins, and all excesses that you are putting in your body.

That said, it's time to think of your liver because you only have one your entire life! Here are small, actionable steps that you can take to take care of your liver on a daily basis on top of going to regular check- ups with your doctor.

1. EXERCISE REGULARLY

- I don't need to highlight anymore the benefits of exercising and why it's good for you because we all know that it is one of the best things you can give your body.

To encourage you to exercise more, regular exercise can help minimize liver fat and maintain a healthy liver. Exercising can also help you maintain a healthy weight, which is vital to maintaining a healthy liver as well.

2. CONTROL ALCOHOL INTAKE

- Drinking is good, but drinking in excess is not. Alcohol is one of the leading causes of Liver Cirrhosis; I know people who are now living a poor quality of life just because of liver disease; they just can't eat any food or drink any beverage anymore, and some were also limited physically by their physicians.

As the old adage goes, prevention is always better than cure so before going for another round of drinks, think of your liver first.

3. EAT EVERYTHING IN MODERATION

- Excessive amounts of fat, meat, and raw food can damage your liver. Always remember to eat when you're hungry, not when you want to and learn when to push the plate away from you.

4. AVOID SHARING PERSONAL HYGIENE ITEMS

- Blood can contain parasites and other trace diseases that can damage your liver when you are exposed to it so even if you may look unfriendly to some, NEVER SHARE YOUR PERSONAL HYGIENE ITEMS such as razors, toothbrush, needles, trimmers, makeup brushes, and the likes. When you are exposed to infected blood, the parasites will enter your body and target the liver, which can cause severe damage. Similarly, when you are exposed to blood, see a doctor right away and have your liver checked.

5. SUPPORT WITH SUPPLEMENTS

- Although the liver can regenerate on its own, it will still need support from vitamins and minerals to keep it healthy and recover faster, especially after a bout of drinking or binge eating.

Supplements like Essentiale are specially made to protect the liver and support good liver health with Phospholipids; it acts as an antioxidant, detoxifies, and enhances liver function. Essentiale is available at South Star Drug, Mercury Drug, and Watsons.

  1. I share my brushes with my mom and my cousin but I also share my Ellana brush cleaner with them. A few sprays and my brushes are clean and ready for sharing. Not sure if that is hygienic enough though but I hope so.
