THE VERDICT:
If there's red, then there's the K-Beauty red. The classic red lipstick is usually a midtone kind of red with a neutral undertone; it's bold, opaque, strong, and modern, but for Koreans, it's a different one: it's a rosy kind of red; sometimes with a hint of burnt orange, but overall, it's softer, warmer, and vintage. I think the reason why K-Beauty's version of the red lipstick became popular, at least here in the Philippines, is because it's not that bright and head- turning, making it more 'appropriate' for office and daily wear.
MAC has released Powder Kiss lipstick, their first foray into the world of K-Beauty and the shade Devoted to Chili is one of the most popular shades because it has perfectly captured the K-Beauty red that I'm talking about.

MAC Powder Kiss lipstick is a new matte lipstick range that yields a soft focus effect and romantic blur of color. Moisture- coated pigments continually hydrate the lips during wear. There are 29 shades available.
The lipstick in the tube looks so smooth and pretty; it looks like a photoshopped lipstick (lol) and has the iconic vanilla fragrance. The tube has a matte finish as well to complete the experience.
Devoted to Chili is described by MAC as a 'warm brick red shade' and I agree with the description, and if I may add, with a rosy undertone.
Texture is a smooth and has a powder matte feel, although finish is 90% matte because since the pigments are coated in measure, there's a bit of sheen in the product; it glides on easily and pigmentation is medium to heavy; the medium pigmentation may be a surprise for some MAC lipstick fans who are used to the brand's full blast color coverage in one swipe, but bear in mind that the product was formulated as such because it's meant to be blurred out easily and beautifully when used in ombre lipstick looks.

Devoted to Chili is actually a beautiful color; reminds me Chili, one of my first MAC lipstick shades; now it's having a resurgence!
Going back, Devoted to Chili is a pretty rosy red lipstick that suits a lot of skin tones, but I have to admit that it looks stunning on fair skin; the rosy and slight orange hue in the formula makes it stand out on fair skin. On medium and warm skin, it's a lighter brick red, but still looks pretty and still captures the essence of K-Beauty red!
Staying power for MAC's new Powder Kiss lipstick is okay; it stays put, but needs to be retouched after a meal. At least my lips didn't dry up nor got dehydrated during wear, all thanks to the moisture coasted pigments.
I can see why Devoted to Chili is a such a popular shade: 1. It's K-Beauty- inspired 2. It captured the kind of red that girls are sporting nowadays 3. Lipstick color is on trend and generally, beautiful on a lot of skin tones. Highly recommended!

ReplyDeleteI haven’t tried any MAC product if ever their Powder matte lipstick and the Fix Plus spray would be my firsts on the list. I’m not into reds coz I think it’s not for me or maybe I’ll just have to find the perfect one for me. This Devoted to Chili looks amazing as you say it suits a lot of skin tones.
