For our first ingredient of the week, we discussed COCONUT, its benefits, and the coconut- infused products I recommend.
This week, let's look at one of my favorite skin care ingredients, ROSE!
ROSE- perhaps the most beautiful, fragrant flower on earth. A symbol of femininity, a proclamation of love, an element of luxury, and a great source of anti- inflammatory ingredients!
ROSE SKIN CARE BENEFITS:
Rose is rich in anti-inflammatory and antiseptic ingredients; now don't wonder anymore why you see Rose in a lot of 'for sensitive skin' skin care products as well as anti- acne products. Rose is also rich in Vitamin C, which is great for brightening the skin and eradicating hyper pigmentation. Other benefits are hydration, anti- aging, sebum control, and maintains the pH balance of the skin.
Rose is used two ways in skin care: Water and Oil. Rosewater is often used in toners and mists because aside from the aromatic benefits, it's not drying to the skin as well and the liquid form allows it to penetrate skin easily to instantly minimize irritation and redness. Meanwhile, Rose oil is used in skin care either as a standalone product or as part of the ingredients, plus in fragrance too. Like any oil, Rose oil is more moisturizing and it stays longer on the skin than water, thereby allowing the skin to fully maximize its properties. Rose oil is a great aromatherapy product because according to scent studies, it evokes a sensual, romantic, empowered feeling (now you know what scent to wear on a big day in the office or date night!)
You've probably come across the term ROSE HYDROSOL as well. Many luxury skin care products use Rose Hydrosol (or distilled rose water) because it offers the benefits of Rose water and Rose oil; because Hydrosol is basically the suspension of oil in water.
Rose Hydrosol is obtained through a distillation process: Rose petals are placed on top of boiling water until the petals release droplets that are a mix of oil and water. But since this procedure can take a whole lot of time, some manufacturing companies would mix rose oil and water to get the same benefits.
ROSE CONS:
- Rose generally has very little to no side effects because it's arguably the gentlest natural active ever used in skin care. But in rare cases, specifically those with hyper reactive skin or those with sensitivity to flowers, some may experience redness, burning sensation, or itch. It also depends on the overall formula and ingredients used by a certain, rose- infused skin care product so you have to check and analyze whether if it's really the Rose extract that's causing the side effects or something else.
ROSE USES:
- As perfume
- As home fragrance
- As an aromatherapy product
- As skin care
Without further ado, here are the Rose- infused products that I love using!
- A beautifully- scented bar that's quite moisturizing. The milky rose scent is a perfect treat before bed time or as a great start for the day.
- A great hydrating mist to fix makeup or as a pick-me-up at any time of the day. This remains as my most favorite facial spray because it smells so good, plus it's very hydrating and I love how it refreshes my makeup whenever needed.
- Did you know that Pixi uses rose a lot in their skin care preparations, plus they make really good skin care too! My favorite is Rose Tonic toner because it immediately calms my skin after using an acid- based toner or product and Rose Cream Cleanser is a rich, hydrating cleanser that smells good and perfect during dry, cold months.
- Bulgarian Rose is one of the most precious Rose variants in the world and this namesake brand came all the way from Bulgaria. Bulgarian Rose skin care is made with all- natural Bulgarian Rose water and oil extracts. The classic Rose line is my favorite because it's mainly for skin hydration.
- One of the most popular Korean beauty toners. Mamonde Rose Water is made with 90.89% Rose Water so you get all its wonderful benefits, plus it's great for sensitive skin as well. When I used this product, my face would always look perpetually fresh and hydrated, plus it smells very good!

I love the Olay Rose and Milk soap which really smells amazing. I can’t remember if I’ve tried other products that have rose on it. If ever, I would to try the Pixi Rose tonic.
