THE VERDICT:

Hyaluronic Acid is one of my staple acids because among all the hydrating key ingredients that I have tried, this is the one that really works for my skin. My skin just feels and looks more hydrated and healthier, especially this summer when my skin tends to get oddly drier.

Shiseido has recently released their new line of creams called Essential Energy, which is comprised of Hyaluronic Acid (omg!). I was pretty ecstatic about it because finally, one of my favorite skin care brands now has Hyaluronic Acid products. 

I've been using the range, including Shiseido Ultimune, for three weeks now and I could say that these have kept my face hydrated and comfortably moisturized despite the heat! This trio is my new favorite hydration routine!

 

Hydrating Day Cream and Hydrating Cream ingredients

Shiseido Essential Energy skin care collection is comprised of two creams: Day Cream and Cream.

Essential Energy helps support the skin's natural production of Hyaluronic Acid, strengthens the skin's barrier, and keeps skin protected from UV rays and keeps it hydrated for 24 hours. It also has Ginseng root extract that helps energize the skin and formula is sensitive skin- friendly.

Ultimune is an antioxidant booster serum with ImuGenerationRED Technology that yields the following benefits to your skin: helps boost hydration, reduces signs of aging, and feeds skin with vital nutrients. This powerful serum promises to boost the look of skin in just 3 days. Dermatologist- tested and non-comedogenic.

The products come in two glass jars. Essential Energy, given its formula and hydration benefit, is more targeted to youth consumers. Based on the feel and look of the packaging, it's like they will be more attractive to late Gen Zs and early Millennials, which is fine because the formula is suitable for their skin types.

Ultimune is a very light, emulsion- like serum; it has a very hydrating, light feel that you can wear it even during daytime. It has Shiseido's signature floral fragrance. The fragrance is not overpowering though so don't worry. Ultimune is a booster serum so you can use it as a standalone serum or you can mix it with other skin care routines and products to give them a boost. Formula is easily absorbed by the skin and doesn't leave any residue. I just use three moderate pumps to cover my entire face; I don't use more than that because the product may take a while to set.

Essential Energy Hydrating Cream is a rich, smooth, opaque cream. A little goes a long way and has Shiseido's signature floral fragrance. The cream doesn't exactly say for which time of day it's intended, but I think it can be for daytime for dry skin and night time for normal/oily skin types; this is just a bit rich for daytime use for my semi- oily skin; it doesn't set very fast too so it may extend your daytime preparation.

Essential Hydrating Day Cream has a gel-cream texture; it has a fun, bouncy feel and a little goes a long way too. It also has Shiseido's signature floral fragrance. This one sets easily, but since it has Hyaluronic Acid, which makes you feel that there is a layer of moisture on top of your skin, I don't go heavy with it because I hate feeling that there's anything on top of my skin during summer.

Here's my skin three weeks after using Shiseido Ultimune and Hydrating Cream religiously: my skin looks plumper, bouncier, and also, my breakouts, especially on the jawline, were minimized (products didn't say that they have anti-acne properties, but based on experience, a well- hydrated skin helps minimize the occurrence of acne). 

All the products are makeup- friendly and they did not break me out. Overall, my skin just looks really nice and healthy- looking again.

I can attest that this thing is indeed powerful because I'm going through a lot of work- related stress right now, but face still doesn't look like I need a 6- month vacation LOL.

I'm pretty happy with these products and I highly recommend to those who need good, hydrating skin care that can be used by any skin type, even sensitive skin. Also, if you have sensitive skin and you want to get started on Hyaluronic Acid skin care, but afraid that the ones in the drugstore will break you out, you may consider this because it's formulated for this skin type too.
