THE VERDICT:
I just came from Dr. Batungbacal, the country’s only
eye specialist for humans and animals, for Denver's eye check-up. A week ago, he diagnosed Denver with
Glaucoma, which is the culprit behind the swelling of his left eye. In Denver's first check- up, the
pressure on his left eye was pretty bad at 10/22. Today, his eye pressure
drastically went down to 10/4 and Dr. Batungbacal said that he would
recover with just the help of medicines—no need for a surgical operation! He
even said that Denver is a miraculous case because in his experience, he’s the
only dog who responded well to his medicines despite the fact that his left eye
was pretty bad when he first checked it. I guess Denver is just a very positive
mutt, and his willingness to recover has helped him a lot! Right now, I’m
blogging at Starbucks The Fort High Street and Denver is just chillin’ on the
floor, watching people pass by and entertaining those who would give him a pat
on the head.
Anyway, Fairy Drops is finally in Manila! Basically, we have everything from the famed mascaras, Jelly gloss, mineral powder, and BB cream.
I wore Fairy Drops Candy Bar BB Cream today so I thought of
reviewing it for everyone. A little info about this product: Together with the
rest of the Fairy Drops products, Candy Bar BB Cream was developed by a
Japanese newscaster named Aya Yasuda, who longed for a product that would
keep up with her work and make her look naturally flawless in front of the
camera, and this BB Cream was born. Candy Bar BB Cream is infused with Micro
Gold Particles that hide scars and freckles, and micro powders that give skin a
soft focus finish. Formula is oil- proof, waterproof, and sweat- proof. Other
than that, it is also infused with 5 essences that help moisturize and protect skin.
The big come on of this product is its SPF- Free content because Yasuda didn’t
like how SPF- laden face products would give her a white cast in photos and
in front of the camera.
The 5 types of essences contained in this BB Cream are the following: Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen, Squalene, Jojoba Seed Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol

This BB Cream can be applied in two ways:
The product is in a squeeze- type bottle: Remove the cap and sponge applicator, and dispense the product on your palm if you want a concentrated coverage, or if you want to use a stippling or foundation brush.
If you want light or medium coverage, apply the product
using the sponge: Just squeeze the bottle lightly and the liquid will be
dispensed through the mini hole on the sponge. Buff the sponge lightly onto
your skin to blend the product.
I prefer using it with the sponge because it’s
faster to use, and I also like its smooth and non-absorbent texture.
However, my problem with the sponge is it does not allow me to see if I’m dispensing
more than what I need.
CAUTION: DO NOT--I repeat--DO NOT pull out the sponge because it's glued onto the cover or else, you'll tear it up. Unscrew the cap if you don't want to use the sponge.
Here’s the product: This BB Cream only comes in
2 shades, unfortunately. Ochre is the closest to my skin tone, but I find that
it’s a little light on me. I’m an NC42 and methinks this product will fit girls
with NC35-NC40 skin tones. But good thing it does not have any SPF in it because
as it is, it’s already light for my skin tone! The other shade is Light Ochre,
which is obviously for fair- skinned ladies.
ADDENDUM: Michelle of Mrs. Martinez Raves and Rants has pointed out a good concern here: It has Titanium Oxide and Zinc Oxide as its ingredients, which conflicts its 'No SPF' claim. Titanium Dioxide, apart from its UV-blocking capability, is also used as a thickener. Nano-scaled Titanium Dioxide particles that are coated with silicone is the type of TD used as a UV blocker in sunscreens. But we don't know which of the two statements is correct for this product so let's just say that it has a teeny bit of SPF in it--it's barely there, and it's as good as saying that there's none at all. :)
Candy Bar BB Cream when spread
Ochre is a medium beige shade with a yellow undertone. The Micro Gold Particles are invisible to the naked eye so fret not because it won't make you appear as if you've been touched by King Midas. LOL!
Bare skin
Two layers of Fairy Drops Candy Bar BB Cream+ArtDeco Camouflage Concealer+Zero Kuma Concealer in 1
It has a very faint floral scent. Consistency is semi- creamy, it evens skin tone, blends well and easily, and it sets quickly onto my skin. I don't know if it's just me, but I feel that this product dries to a semi- matte finish and that is very good news for an oily- skinned gal like me!
I usually apply 1-2 layers to conceal some post-
acne marks. For a sheer BB Cream, it can cover well! I also like the way it
gives my face a clean, matte look that doesn't look too flat. True to its claim, it does make my skin
look camera- worthy! I set it with a shade matching powder to adjust the
shade to my skin tone. In this photo, I’ve used M.A.C’s Mineralized Skin Finish Powder in Medium Dark.
Staying power is very good: It practically lasts all day without fading. I just have to blot my face during wear to keep me looking fresh—no retouching needed!
This is a good everyday alternative to
foundation because it is lightweight, yet it somehow works like the latter: It improves skin texture and brightens up
any dull appearance. This is also photo- friendly and I recommend it to every
BB Cream lover, given that you find a match from any of the two available
shades. It’s good for oily- skinned people because it stays put, and for dry-skinned
people because it has a very moisturizing consistency. I hope they'd come out with better shade options though. For me, this is one good
BB Cream, although I think it’s a little expensive. But if you don’t mind
spending on a face product that is comfortable to wear yet performs like a PRO, (and has skin care benefits to boot) consider this!

ReplyDeleteI saw Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide in the list of ingredients, therefore, the product has SPF ; )
I hope Denver will recover soon!

Martha, can you recommend this for oily skin?
ReplyDeleteMichelle: Great observation! It could just be regular Titanium dioxide, and not nano-scaled titanium dioxide, the purified and silicone- coated titanium dioxide used as SPF. Titanium dioxide, apart from its sun-blocking capability, is also used as a thickener. Regarding the presence of these ingredients, I guess it's safe to say that It could have SPF in it, but it's very minimal--almost good as saying there's none at all. :)
ReplyDeleteGreziel: Yes. I included that in the post :)
omg it looks so matte! it is definitely a steal!
ReplyDeleteim very oily~ will u recommend this?
Jenny: If you're fond of using BB creams, your skin tone matches one of the available shades, and you don't mind spending on it, yes. :)
ReplyDeleteYa a tad bit lighter than your skin tone. I still am in the hunt for the right bb cream, hard to find the shade that matches me ..I'm also NC 42..

ganda sana kaya lang puro parabens...beware of parabens.
ReplyDeleteMan bloggers rave this fairydrops and even their mascara. So I dont think this will disappoint given that youd like to end on bb creams. And i also think that using the sponge will take a lot more product than usual heheh so Id rather unscrew the cap. Anyway, i can still use the sponge when blending. Great review ms martha. And last.. I laugh at the " denver on the floor chillin part" looks like hes a happy dog.
