Here’s areview on Nanny Rose Sticks and Pulls Wax
PLACE BOUGHT: Watson’s, Greenbelt
OTHER LOCATIONS: All Watson’s Branches in leading malls nationwide
I appreciate the fact that it’s made up of natural ingredients, but there must be something wrong with the way the wax was cooked. For one, the consistency is too hard, and it’s defeating itself. If it's used in its cold, solidified state, a few rubbing can cause the wax to harden. I found out that this works better if heated in the microwave. BUT—if you leave it in the microwave for more than 15 seconds, it will melt, and the wax will be rendered useless.
So my advise, crank your microwave temperature to low, set the timer at ten seconds. And when you start to see the wax bubble up a bit, shut the microwave, and use kitchen mittens or pot holders to take the jar out, as the jar can be piping hot after heating.
CAUTION: The wax is very hot after heating. Let it cool down for a few minutes before using to prevent scalding.
Okay, so the consistency has softened a bit after I nuked it in the microwave. It worked better, but unfortunately, it did not take out a significant amount of hair from my pits. It is only inclusive of 3 strip cloths in the box, and they did not suffice. I had to use my excess waxing papers from Strip It! to finish my waxing session.
L-R: Nanny Rose and Strip It!
Check out how hard the texture of NR is compared to SI. SI spreads easily, is so easy to work with, and removes a considerable amount of strands in one stripping! NR wax, on the other hand, rolls up in a ball whenever I apply it on my pits.
If there is one thing I like about the product, it would be the stripping cloth. It’s made from Kacha. It works so well with Strip It!.
Nanny Rose is not that bad, and it’s not good either. If you don’t have hairy problems like me, this will work for you. But regardless if you’re hairy or not, THIS WAX WlLL ONLY WORK IF HEATED.
It’s not noob- friendly, and risky to use even by veteran waxing fans like me. Strip It! still remains unsurpassed for me. Nope, won’t buy this again in the meantime. But if Nanny Rose reformulates, why not?
ADDENDUM: Amanda Del Rosario, owner of Nanny Rose and I had a correspondence via email. She informed me that the jar of Nanny Rose Sticks and Pulls can be heated in the microwave. No need to transfer wax to a microwavable bowl. :)

I've seen this at Watsons all the time and I've had thoughts of buying it. Good thing I didn't. :P
ReplyDeletei have the same thing!! but its not hard. i can use it at room temperature and it still works fine. it just pulls out thin hairs though.
ReplyDeletei bought mine last year. it doesnt have the queen bee thingy yet. but i think its still the same thing.
mine works fine.
but if the product does not deliver its purpose consistently then its useless.
looking forward to your future posts. have a great day :D
I wonder if they changed the formulation because I really liked Nanny Rose the first time I used it. But when I used the large tub, the formula started to become gritty and marmalade-ish, not viscuous like it originally was.
ReplyDeleteAndrea of Nanny Rose told me that the wax and sugar separated because they don't use emulsifiers and the solution is to nuke it for a few seconds in the microwave. Unfortunately, I don't have a microwave in the condo and my parents threw out their own microwave for health reasons.
Anyway, will start getting my pits lasered na so won't need to deal with waxing anymore. yay!
Hmm.. thanks for the review dear. I almost pick this up when I was at Watsons days ago. And see you on tuesday! x
ReplyDeletegellie: I just needed a wax kit so bad, and had no choice but to get this one, as there's no Sesou stall around Greenbelt. Hay. Good thing I didn't get the big tub. :/
ReplyDeleteYnell: wow, glad yours is better than what I got. But inconsistency is not good. :/ Thanks for visiting dear! :)
Jill: this is my first time to use it. Like what you've said, it was probably better before, as you guys were the first ones to use it when it was released. I dunno. :/
The thing with strip it!, from the smallest to the biggest tub, the consistency is consistent, and it can be used without heating. That's why I love it. Arlette of Strip It! told me that the efficacy of the wax relies on the cooking. Maybe the peeps of NR don't know how to cook it properly.
Hay, I'm thinking of getting a laser too! :D Have a great day, Jill. :)
I always wanted to try waxing Ms.Martha but I'm afraid to. Nagpapluck nalang ako, but I do hate it cause it resulted me to chicken skin thingy. Thanks to this post. Much better po ba ang waxing than shaving and plucking??
ReplyDeleteaaw sad! I also got an all-natural wax but it's different from this. Even if I need to pre-heat it in the oven since it's sometimes cold and has the tendency to become hard, still it's really effective coz it will surely remove a great amount of hair. :) I got it from SkinSalon by TinayShop Fan Page.. :)
ReplyDeleteI tried this and it was good until the last few uses. It was hard to melt and hardened quickly! I can barely use it so I just threw it out. Good thing they had the smaller sizes.
ReplyDeleteI have this actually. I have to agree that it is a bit difficult to use because it does not consistently remove hair as I thought it would. The first time I used it to remove leg hair was ok. But the consecutive times, I dunno. I failed hahaha. XDDD It kinda drives one crazy, I suppose. But I might try Strip It one of these days and hope it's so much better.
ReplyDeleteaww sayang. thanks for sharing! was about to buy this din coz the packaging is sooo cute :D
ReplyDeletejen: waxing makes life easier, I tell you. And it prevents chicken skin too. :)
ReplyDeletetheresa: thanks for the recommendation! Will check that out.
Sofia: same here. :( My mom's using it 'cos she has sparser hair than me.
clair: I swear by strip it! You should try that. :) As for this one, nah. I hope Nanny rose does something about this.
Jelly: Thanks for dropping by! I recommend Strip It!
i was thinking of buying this one pa naman the other day, kasi ang mura diba? good thing I read your review, kaya napaisip pa ako. thanks!
ReplyDeletejakie: true! price is cheap, and so is the quality.
ReplyDeletehmmm, I'm so curious na rin sa Strip It.. Wanna try that one too.. do you have a review about it??
ReplyDeleteI won this in a blog contest too..I have yet to see if I will have the same problem...Hope not..:( I will use it on my legs though...meaning..thick strands :(
ReplyDeletetheresa: yes dear! please check my archives. :)
ReplyDeleteleilani: if your hair strands are long, trim them first. It makes waxing more tolerable. :)
read your post about it.. a must-try! after my wax, wanna try this one.. :)
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think of this post! :)
