FAN MAIL FRIDAYS: Makeup while working out?

Huhuhu. Wasn't able to work out today due to the weather and my meeting has just finished, but it was a very productive day and I have a new project so it isn't a bad day after all! There's sunshine on my head right now and I'm happy! :D

Anyway, our Fan Mail Fridays for today is from a follower/reader with the pen name "Makeup Obsessed" and she/he asks:

Dear Martha,

I follow you on Instagram and would fangirl like crazy by liking your posts. I've noticed lately that you are into boxing. I currently have an exercise routine too and that's Plana Forma. I just want to ask if you wear makeup whenever you'd work out. I know someone's not supposed to put makeup on before exercising, but not for me-sorry, my face is not perfect lol! Is this normal? If you wear makeup to boxing, what products do you use? Any tips? Thanks!

Makeup Obsessed

Hi Makeup Obsessed!

Thanks for being an IG follower and I hope my posts are not flooding your timeline in any way haha! Anyway, yes, I wear makeup to boxing. Weird right? Like you, my face is not perfect too so I can't afford to go out without a single trace of makeup on my face-I have an image to maintain, you know, so I can't afford to look like crap when I'm out LOL!

But I don't wear my usual makeups when I'm going to a boxing session. The key to working out comfortably in your makeup without hearing chuckles from people and getting weird stares from your trainer is by keeping it light- not only that, it will also help your pores breathe and make your body excrete sweat and get rid of toxins easily. Also, use products in long- wearing and waterproof formulations so your clothes (and the gym mats) won't get soiled!

For my brows, I use my waterproof brow products such as MAC Fluidline Brow Gelcreme or Majolica Majorca Brow Customize.

As for my face base, I use light powder foundation products such as Shiseido's Sheer Mattifying Powder, ZA Powder Foundation, or The Body Shop's All-In-One Face Base. I only apply one layer on my entire face, just enough to even out my skin tone.

Lastly, I contour my cheeks subtly with Benefit Hoola Bronzer. Contouring powder is like food to me so my round face and chubby cheeks can't leave home without it!

But if you think that wearing makeup while exercising doesn't sound right, then there's no problem with that too. :)

That's all, Makeup Obsessed! Have a safe Friday, everyone! :)

  1. For me, I don't think I can't risk blocking pores with makeup during workouts. But like you, I can't go out bare faced as well.

My go-to makeup for sweaty days, or even swimming/trips: waterproof mascara and lip and cheek stain (not tint, stain. Alcohol based ones like TBS) Hindi nahuhulas so I still look good after. :)

  7. I do something similar except I put on lip tint instead of bronzer. I have the same reason as you: I feel too naked/pale without it :P
