THE VERDICT:

Even if I prefer wearing either Powder or Liquid foundation, pressed powders are still SO important to me because they counterbalance liquid foundations that are either too light or too dark without the heavy feel, making them more wearable and preventing me from looking badly done. The problem is most pressed powders are too thick that they end up giving me another unnecessary layer of makeup on my face. Blotting powder is another good foundation corrector because it's sheer, but my problem with it is it lacks coverage.

Recently, I've come across L'Oreal Mat Magique BB Veil, a mattifying pressed powder. When I tried it, I was like "Where have you been all my life?!" It's the correcting pressed powder I have always imagined because it's lightweight, takes away shine, smooths rough areas, and corrects the shade of my foundations, specifically the dark, pink- toned ones, effectively and naturally. Mat Magique BB Veil Powder is a versatile product that can be a pressed powder and a corrector!

L'OREAL MAT MAGIQUE BB VEIL IN G1 IN DETAIL

This new addition to the Mat Magique range is a lightweight pressed powder that takes away shine and promises a poreless finish. It has Volcanic Perlite Minerals, natural oil absorbers that promise to keep skin fresh and matte for up to 12 hours, and SPF 32 PA+++ for UV protection. It comes in two four shades only: N1, N2, G1, and G2.

Product comes in a sleek acrylic case-it's clean, simple, and doesn't look cheap.

I love that there's a powder compartment at the bottom to keep the bacteria on the sponge from transferring to and lingering on the powder, thereby preventing me from having breakouts. How thoughtful of L'Oreal to do this. :)

Read more about this lovely powder after the break, especially if you always need to adjust your liquid foundation to your skin tone!

The powder is unscented, has a silky texture and matte finish, and doesn't need too much blending for it to settle properly onto the skin; It feels just like a translucent powder and tints skin lightly like a sheer powder. G1 is a medium beige shade with a yellow undertone--it's sad that we only have two shades available locally!

L'OREAL MAT MAGIQUE BB VEIL IN G1 IN ACTION

Mat Magique BB Veil used as a correcting powder

I used this powder to correct MAC Pro Longwear Liquid Foundation on me and I noticed that it adjusted the foundation to my skin tone more. In this photo, I used two layers of the powder all over my skin and amazingly, it looks natural and not at all caked on! I also dust on this powder if my skin is looking extra rough on a particular day because it can smooth out roughness and conceals enlarged pores. Oh, I like using it to set my concealer as well because of its sheer finish.

But what if you want to use this as plain pressed powder only? Can you?

Of course! Because it's designed to be a pressed powder anyway. :) I used it as one below:

One layer of Mat Magique BB Veil

If used as a regular pressed powder, it yields a sheer to light finish-it's like a more grown- up version of Johnson 'N Johnson Pressed Powder. :D Coverage is just too light for my liking so I use it as a correcting powder instead.

It keeps me oil- free for about 4- 5 hours and then I have to retouch around twice or thrice after that. Sorry to those who have really oily skin, but I don't think it can keep you oil- free for up to 12 hours as advertised. One considerable weakness of this powder is its consistency is pretty sheer that it cannot set liquid bases as quickly as I want to, therefore I have to use my usual setting powders prior to using this product, if needed.

To conclude, this product, to me, serves as a Correcting Veil: it smooths the skin and makes foundation look a bit better on me; Can serve as a pressed powder too and is best for combination normal/oily and normal skin types. My only wish is that we will have more shades to choose from soon so it can cater to more people. Other than that, I'm very pleased with this product and it's my favorite correcting pressed powder to date. ;)

  1. This looks good. The price is reasonable and it's hygienic. What more I am looking for? I can't use creams or foundations everyday due to hectic class schedule especially now that this thesis-thingy keeps popping in my head so bad so I really think this would be perfect for me. Ohmomomo~ I can't wait to have this. Thanks for the review Ms. Martha.

  2. I was thinking of buying a powder foundation because the one i am currently using was too sheer for my liking. Matt Magique bb veil came to my mind because it is affordable although it's just face powder. Thanks for the review. Now i am thinking of purchasing the powder foundation of Matt Magique instead of the Veil because i need something with good coverage and can hold up even when my oily t-zone starts to make a scene even if it means paying a houndred peso more.

  3. I saw this at a L'oreal counter in SM Dasma and they have 4 available shades. N1,N2, G1, G2. I tried the it and my face oiled up in 1h. I do have very very oily nose though. :(

  4. Did you use the sponge? How was it? Or it is better to use with a brush? Currently Im using the l'oreal true match super blendable powder and I like it so why not give a try on this BB veil! I think its worth it plus it is still on sale. The packaging is so cute also! Thanks for enabling and for the review ms.martha:)

  6. I've tried this one in L'oreal counters but I somehow didn't like it. It's so sheer for me and it doesn't have the perfect shade for my skin tone. The shade selection is too narrow. I like the true match better. :)
